Error 550

Apologies in advance - longish post.

When I try to connect to my webspace, everything appears OK but if I try to upload to it or delete a remote file, I'm given the error "550".

I am using the correct address - this is a fairly recent occurence - as I have been able to upload/delete etc. happily before.

I link to http://homepage.ntlworld.com/myusername/ and ftp to
upload.ntlworld.com

From what I understand, there could be two things here:

1) My firewall (Windows 7) is interfering and may need a port manually opened. I'm not sure I want to do that - and, actually, I'm not really sure how to. I used to use Zone Alarm and had no issue; however, I can't say hand on heart this only started happening since I switched over.

2) I no longer have write permissions on my directories and that I should get a sysadmin to check that out.

With 2) above, who do I call?

Also, is there anything else I can do?

Cheers.
