Using Outlook Express on 2 different PCs
Is it possible to set up Outlook Express on a Laptop and a Desktop and have them both operate properly with the same email account?
I have tried it and found that collecting an email on one system means that this same email cannot be seen by the other system. It appears to be deleted from the server once read.
However on the Advanced Tab on the Account Properties there is a check box which allows you 'Leave a copy of the mail on the Server'. I would expect that this setting should allow both systems to be able to read the same email, but it does'nt.
Anyone else tried this?
John

It works with Outlook, but I don't know about Outlook Express.
Try calling Microsoft, who should be able to help.

I have never actually called Microsoft before. Do you mean I should phone them, if so who do you call and does it cost money?

If you follow this link, then click on windows (I don't know which version you have). Then it should lead you in the right direction. As for the charge, I'm not sure without going through the product selection.

Re: Using Outlook Express on 2 different PCs
You need to use Recent Mode on both machines which is explained in this link http://help.virginmedia.com/system/s...NE_OFFSET=null

Can you not use IMAP on both?

It is unlikely that the OP will know what IMAP is, due to the fact that they are asking the question in the first place.

Don't start getting abusive in an open forum Kymmy.
We aren't all computer geeks, and don't all know the terminology. I myself certainly know my way around a PC, and know how to sort the problem with outlook (but not express). But I don't know what IMAP is, so it is very unlikely that someone who isn't very computer literate would know either.

Abusive? You're the one accusing the OP of limited knowledge

If you can set up Outlook then Outlook Express or Windows Mail are a walk in the park and simpler to setup.

Re: Using Outlook Express on 2 different PCs
I'm sure that if the OP doesn't understand IMAP he'll have the intelligence to ask but in the end either imap or Masques solutions will work

No I'm not accusing anyone of anything. I'm saying that because you used to be a technician, then you tend to use terms that are way over the heads of most people who aren't very computer literate. So it would be far more helpful for the OP as well as other people who may read this thread if plain English was used.

Maybe so. But as I don't use the express version, then I wasn't going to tell the OP that.
And people using technical terms (as in another post), doesn't help anyone.
I'm sure you can answer this Masque. I seem to remember that on the VM webmail you can change the settings so that it keeps a copy of all e-mails. Is this correct?

If you use plain English in the first place then they wouldn't need to ask.
You need to remember that these are public forums, where people will look for advice, but may never post, or even join. And many of those people wouldn't have a clue what you are talking about.

Re: Using Outlook Express on 2 different PCs
So what you're saying is that many people don't have the intelligence to ask "How do I set up IMAP" if they need to?

No I am saying use common sense, and use plain English in the first place....simple.
Your personal agenda against me isn't helping the OP is it?
