ntl Email vs virginmedia

We have NTL service in our area. I have, and use, half a dozen emal addresses that end in @ntlworld.com. Have done for years. Generally have very few problems. I use Outlook (07) to access accounts or sometimes direct with Mail accessed through MyVirginMedia.

So - mother wants an email address so that various groups eg NTL, BT, Homewatch etc etc can send her bill notifications, messages etc.

Mother - who is 93 - does not have a computer but I have "spare" space for a couple more email accounts under my master account so I though I would set one up for her. I can then read the mails and print them off.

When I set up the email address & account it came as a @virginmedia.com account rather than @ntlworld. Summat has obviously changed.

Fine, I can access her new email account through an initial logon with her addy and password at MyVirginMedia. However, I want to do it through Outlook.

No success so far. Remember, I have set up all my other Outlook accounts with no problem.

The FIRST ISSUE - for incoming mail and NTL I set up with pop.ntlworld.com and outgoing with SMTP.ntlworld.com

DOES THAT STILL APPLY because my service provider is NTL - or should I be using something like pop.virginmedia.com and SMTP.virginmedia.com

Sorry to display my ignorance but I am struggling BECAUSE neither seem to work. Tell me the CORRECT entry lines and then I will struggle & play a bit longer before I perhaps need to shout help again.

Re: ntl Email vs virginmedia

Humm I have faithfully followed the instruction in the link - FAIL
Also tried lots of other combinations of the settings - basically mirroring the settings used for other email accounts ( @ntlworld.com type) that work fine - still FAIL

I will use a screen grabber to capture all the settings pages and the error messages - and then like he said "I'll be back"

Re: ntl Email vs virginmedia

I printed out all the screen "snips" and three of us checked that they displayed EXACTLY what was in the help system link. Still nothing

I removed the user from the account and deleted Outlook off that desktop.

Then I put Outlook back on the Desktop and re-entered all the info to create the account for the new user again - following exactly what was in the help link and checking that what I was entering was the same as on the screen snips from the earlier attempt.

THREE of us were doing this so 3 checks before every move

This time IT ALL WORKED

We have snipped all the setings into pictures and have compared these to the original attempts

NO differences

'aint computers "quaint"

Cheers all
