Re: bloody virginmedia.com
What does it say within My Virgin Media > My Profile > Manage Accounts ?
If you have correctly set up the email address there it should be listed

Re: bloody virginmedia.com
it is not listed - and now not avail to setup again -- theres nothing to setup just enter first/second names select username check if avail and then continue - at which point it gave the google oops page and on subsequent tries the original name i wanted is now not available --- jimpy0@virginmedia.com - which is the name i use on 95% of places i frequent

Re: bloody virginmedia.com
Sounds like it's timed out after it was added to the naming service.
Call up and get it raise to IT .. 20 seconds to fix once they have it.
I'd imagine the portal just timed out during your attempt.

It is best not to use anonymous e-mail accounts like gmail, hotmail, etc... for on line purchases, as it pushes up your possible fraud score with the gateways.

VM e-mails are not anonymous e-mail addresses, they are linked to an account, and therefore an address.
You won't notice the fraud score, because it is only the merchant who sees it. But it does count against you, and can leat to payments being declined.

Then I'll just go somewhere else. However thus far I've not had any trouble.
I'd rather use Gmail because I get the storage space,I can save important emails and the spam I get from commercial sites despite my ticking the boxes, is dealt with by an excellent spam filter.Any business who doesn't want to do business with me will have to lump it or I'll go without.

I think you are missing the point completely. It's not the individual retailers, it's the security set up by the merchant service and the gateway.
