E-mail password.
I am trying to register with a particular website and one of the requirements is my e-mail address and e-mail password. My problem is this -- I have no idea what my e-mail password is and I don't know where to look.
I have run searches and generally the best advice so far is to look at the letter which I received with my e-mail info as it also contains the password.
I have had this e-mail address since Methusela was a boy and cannot remember the password and, after having an office fire 5 years ago, no paperwork either. Can anyone tell me where to look and also advise me if parting with this info is a good idea??

Re: E-mail password.
What site are you trying to register on? Never give out your password, so be very careful what you do.

Re: E-mail password.
I was thinking of registering with Linkedin (I think thats the correct spelling!) but did think it odd that they should require this information.
Mind you I would still like to find out what my current password is so that I can store it somewhere safe!!!

Yes never give out your email password to anyone.
Linkedin probably just asks for your email address when you register and it probably requires you to create a password like any other site and this is NOT your email password.
Ring Virgin on 150 if dialing from a Virgin phone to find out your email and password, but in the mean time just create a free gmail email.
edit
Just checked the site, it is not asking for your email password, so just make 1 up and make a note of it.

Re: E-mail password.
It's asking for your email password to search through your address book for any of your contacts already using the service ...entirely optional
Edit: It has this option on your profile page after you've already registered

Re: E-mail password.
If it is a Virginmedia email address then we can reset your password as we have record of it on our systems.
But I would never give my home email address password to any website as you never know how secure the site maybe just setup a Gmail account or similar and give them that one if you really want to join the site.
Personally I would look elsewhere rather than join a site that wants to much personal information.

Re: E-mail password.
Its not a requirement, its just so they can search for contacts, if you have no contacts saved in webmail then its pointless.

Re: E-mail password.
If it's linkedin, it's not asking for your email password, it's asking for a password for the site - your email address is your login ID to the site.

Re: E-mail password.
If you're using Thunderbird as your client look under tools/options/edit passwords: under the "passwords save" tab "show passwords" will show all the ones that the manager has saved.

No, as I said, it asks you for your email address and password to check your address book.
Much like Facebook and a number of other online apps..

Re: E-mail password.
Ah.....
Now I remember seeing that - didn't bother with it.
