Vstuff... REALLY frustrating.
I've given this so many chances now. Im actually about to subscribe to a paid service because this is just pathetic now.
Last week tried to make a backup, it was insanely slow. I deleted the client and all of its files.
Thought I'd give it a go again today. Installed the the client said i needed to do a restore of my files, I chose the same folders I backed up last week and because the files are already there it carried on backing up with "mycomputer name" as the name for the backup.
Right here is the problem, An error saying my backup is being used on another computer please click continue to sign out. So i did as this was the only option and signed back in. I thought I would just continue as before, but i noticed on the website instead of the back up "my computer name" it had automatically been renamed to some random numbers, so now i have to make a new back up. I cant do anything other than play/share this folder. I cant use the versioning trick to delete/rename it either.
I always have a hard backup of my stuff, and when i format my pc i restore from this hard backup. If i then want Vstuff to carry on monitoring from this newly formatted PC I see it as I have to make an entirely new backup and re upload all of it instead of it using the backup server and carrying on adding to that one.
So thats my troubles with Vstuff at the moment.
I'm not going to bother emailing them as "my password is wrong" as they say and they wont help me via email. I cant phone them as I'm only on payandgo mobile. I'm consider myself very PC savvy and I cant imagine what the average person thinks when running into these problems.
How can virgin be getting this so wrong when there are lots of other backup sites out getting it right.

Re: Vstuff... REALLY frustrating.
When the new system came on line the other week it was fast as hell, Then overnight it started to show signs that it was being traffic shaped between 5pm and 12 am. It got that bad in between those hours that i was only getting about 500 K upstream. At one point it estimated 4 weeks to backup 6 gig Speed Tests conducted in those hours it was being shaped however showed full 5 meg up, This leads me to assume that Vstuff is seen as P2P traffic. My issue is if i go out and pay for backup from a company on the net will VM traffic shape that as well

Even if it was shaped, at least it would work as designed.

When its not slowed down the program works perfectly for me maybe because i have my password. The shaping is what makes it unworkable.
Its simple.
I use the program when my pc is on and that is from 6 till 10 at night. However during that time because its been crippled by shaping i cannot use it to its potential.
Therefor my next option is to use it in the non shaping hours. Now if i leave my pc on between 9 and 5 during the day i open myself up to a letter for detrimental use of my broadband during the day.
If i leave it on overnight i am wasting electricity just to backup my machine.
So at present vstuff is as much use as a light house in the desert for me.

Ok, let's get this looked into, pm me. I don't want anything personal just not wanting other peoples opinions to get in the way.

Thanks for replying but I've given up on it. I've brought a drop box subscription and using virtually linked folders to back my stuff up.
I will try again later this year if its improved.

Seems any traffic to San Francisco is only capable of upping at 2 meg. Noticed other virgin users having the same speed issues with any servers over there.

Re: Vstuff... REALLY frustrating.
Now its backing up the same files over and over again. a 400 meg video file in one of my pictures folder and a 170 meg PSD file in my old graphic design backup folder. Neither have been accessed in a while.
Never ending loop backing up these 2 files and multiple copys of the same files on the website.
That's the straw that broke the camals back for me I can safely say that will be the last time I use it.
Is it only possible to downgrade services via telephone ? Thanks.

Re: Vstuff... REALLY frustrating.
I have found that Vstuff is really aggravating. It slows my Macbook down and occasionally makes it freeze.I have tried phoning to cancel it but the guy I spoke to didn't seem to have heard of vstuff. I was left on hold for so long that I gave up I no longer want the thing, its the only thing I have come across that crashes a Mac

Yes indeed they do, on a Mac you just bung it in the trash, recycle as it's called on Microsoft, but this is costing £5 pm. I don't want to pay for something that is naff.

Then you will need to speak to customer service to have it cancelled
