The new Vstuff - AKA Backup and Storage

As many of you will have noticed Vstuff is now Backup and storage and its much better !

Basically its:
  • New online interface
  • New client for your PC and MAC
  • New backend for faster access and increase response times

I know a lot of people found the old one a bit slow, so I'm hoping you can give it another go and see what you think ?

Any feedback would be gratefully received !

It is much, much faster.

The old system used to timeout for me on restores too - no yet on the new one.

My main concern is it seems to be traffic shaped. I am on 50 meg and the upload is presently slowing down and speeding up as per the traffic shaping rules.

Is it being treated the same as p2p.

The software is better and when i am outside the traffic shaping hours its is fast but during the hours that traffic shaping is on operation it is as slow as a slow thing AGAIN.

Why has all this effort been put into a good program if we are limiting its speed on purpose and in fact making it as bad as it was before the work was done.

I am in two minds as to how i proceed here. Do i use it as it is in a slow state or do i look for another way of backing up to the cloud

Ok, that's a fair comment, the problem though is how the traffic is interpreted by the monitoring systems.

For us to know its Backups running we would need to be looking at the traffic in detail, which we don't do.

Ok point taken. Maybe the team need to look into it, I am sure they will find a way.

How do you know what any traffic is if the system isn't looking at it in detail?

Get a packet capture, send it to Allot and ask them to come up with an application signature to add to DART.

I don't know what any of the traffic is ..

If the network team decided to work away around this, then excellent.

Well i have just uninstalled vstuff. I feel i gave it a fighting chance

I have the same old problem of slow speeds. Soon as we pass into traffic shaping time it slows to a crawl and stays there. To get full speed i would have to basically leave my PC on overnight which in these days of high electricity prices is a no no. Shame really as you can tell VM have spent a lot of money and time improving the interface and it does show. Outside of the shaping it did what it promised but the traffic shaping ruined it at the times i would have used it. If a time comes when traffic shaping is removed for vstuff then i will reinstall but 500 k up at peak times out of 5 meg is just plain stupid considering how much data you would be backing up.

VM if you are reading this please take it out of the shaping so we can use it to it's potential.

Giving it another go after reading your threads. It does indeed seem a little faster today. Ive PM nopanic to try and get rid of older backup dumps on my account and to leave my main backup as that's the live one.
