I am currently working in Germany and I can no longer send email via MS Outlook (My version is 2007). I receive without a problem. I am a VM customer and use an NTLWorld e-mail address. There is no issue from the UK.
The various error messages are;
20110404
[I]Task 'kkkkkkk@ntlworld.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: 421 aamtaout04-winn.ispmail.ntl.com connection refused from [xx.xxx.xxx.x]'
Task 'wwwwwww@ntlworld.com - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Send test e-mail message: The server responded: 421 aamtaout02-winn.ispma
The problem seems to be that VM will not accept messages originating from the IP addresses I use from here. (They are different depending upon whether I am at work or at my flat.)
The support staff said it is a microsoft problem. I do not think that is the case.
I have tried using IP address as opposed to DNS, increasing the timeout and different ports for SMTP to no avail.
Anyone got a solution for this? (I don't mean a workaround using webmail.)
Thanks,
