e-mail

Just joined the Forum and looking for some help with Windows 7 Live mail.
my normal e-mail is Virginmedia but I understand I can use this thru the Windows Live Mail.
The problem I have is,when in WLM I keep getting a message which tells me that I can't send or receive mail from Virginmedia (server failed)
Am I doing something wrong? Help please!
Would appreciate all I can get.
Thanks in advance.
