SMTP blueyonder problems

For outgoing emails from my virginmedia.com i have to use smtp.blueyonder.co.uk to send emails from my broadband as I'm ex-Telewest.

Recently I seem to be having issues with outgoing email disappearing or turning up at the other end days later. Boxing Day was a particularly bad day as at least 2 people have said they didn't get my email. I could test by sending an email to myself and it occasionally doesn't come back right away.

Anyone know about such issues or experienced similar and if so what's going on as there's clearly a problem with VM's smtp email server.

This is sometimes caused by the mail server being temporarily listed on an RBL (real time block list), often resulting in emails being delayed or not delivered at all.

Try switching mail server to smtp.virginmedia.com, same port settings.

Re: SMTP blueyonder problems

The possibility of email not being delivered at all is not something that I can accept. IIt appears that smtp.virginmedia.com doesn't exist.

I've picked up a tip somewhere and used my dummy gmail account and used that for the smtp and it works. The advantage of that is that you can send emails from anywhere as you can only use ntlworld/blueyonder (whichever applicable) through your actual broadband.

Re: SMTP blueyonder problems

The use of dummy Google mail account for SMTP didn't work because this changes the 'reply-to' to that account and then manage to get it working via smtp.virginmedia.com through changing the port setting to 465.

All seems well but in sending emails to yahoogroups.com I no longer get the message I posted to yahoogroups and only get back messages from everyone else in the egroups. Does anyone know if that is a VM issue or what?
