Does 20/50Mb services use the same UBR's as the 10Mb

A bit of advice please. Over the last couple of months, my service has been awful in the early evening - often 10-20% packet loss. Tech support checked my levels etc and are all ok. They then checked load in my area and found that at peak times, utilisation had risen in the evenings on my UBR which they say they will "monitor".

This doesn't help me, as the service is unusable at the time of day I need it! Do the 20Mb and 50Mb services use the same UBR's i.e. is it worth me paying extra to try and improve the service?

Thanks for the reply Nedkelly. Do you know if there is a way to find out the details of each area? I don't want to pay out for the increase, only to find that I've got the same problem!

I should've asked that question also. Recently upgraded from 10 to 20 in an attempt to get a service that worked efficiently but that didn't do it so be careful.

When I get the lower frequency range my connection is more stable so I'm gonna hazard a guess that it could be a noise issue aswell as over subscription and utilisation that causes these repeatative problems.

Thanks Harlow CM20. That's what I thought might be the case.

Re: Does 20/50Mb services use the same UBR's as the 10Mb

Thought that I would post an update in case it helps anybody else.

I spoke to retentions, as I was seriously considering leaving VM, given that my broadband was unusable most evenings due to 20% packet lost. They checked my fault history, but weren't sure whether the speed increase would help.

It was agreed that I could try the 20Mb service for one month and that they would credit my account with £11 being the price difference. If successful, a discounted price was agreed subject to a new 12 month contract. If it didn't work, I could revert to 10Mb on the old contract so that I could leave without penalty.

The upgrade was immediate two weeks ago, and despite several ping tests at various times, the packet loss issue appears to be resolved - I've not had a single packet lost! It's disappointing that I have to pay more to get a usable service in the evening, but at least I can now use my broadband when I need to use it.
