Weird mail error in Thunderbird

I've just had this error from Thunderbird (V 2.0.0.24)

three times in quick succession. It's been over a month since I changed the mail settings for SSL and there's been no problem so far. Now this. Anybody seen it?

I've googled it and come up with this:

Quote:
nailed that error message down to the SSL part of the NSS security core code. Apparently the same message (SSL_ERROR_BAD_MAC_READ) is used for SSL encryption with a mail server as well, thus referring to it as a "website". I'm not familiar enough with the SSL protocol to be able to tell when that would be triggered, but it appears to mean that the server received an unexpected response from Thunderbird. If this happens for multiple users at roughly the same time with the same provider(s), chances are that those providers changed something in their setup to trigger this problem. It would be helpful if the users reported the issue here state which provider they are trying to connect to and with which protocol settings.
From http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...f=39&t=1197795

I hope this is just a glitch somewhere.

Oh great the SMTP server won't accept messages either. Looks like the whole lot's gone down the pan.

I've just started to get this message (TB also)

An error occurred during a connection to pop3.ntlworld.com:995.

SSL received a record with an incorrect Message Authentication Code.

(Error code: ssl_error_bad_mac_read)

Same here SK6. Hopefully just a temporary glitch although email processing does not seem as fast now as on the old in house system

Re: Weird mail error in Thunderbird

Receive error is occuring on both ntlworld.com and virgin.net POP servers also ntlworld.com SMTP is refusing connection. smtp.virgin.net seems OK for the moment.

Re: Weird mail error in Thunderbird

Quick search on th'web seems like a server issue and probably a Gmail problem

Don't worry though you know that Virgin consider email a 'freebie' so you can't complain when it doesn't work!

Re: Weird mail error in Thunderbird

The messages seem to be getting through to the webmail but that's an absolute pain to use. I have multiple accounts auto collected on 10m intervals.

Re: Weird mail error in Thunderbird

Suddenly got 8 messages thro from the virgin.net POP, date stamps starting at 12:00 ntlworld.com is still down.

Just getting this mental image of lots of VM techies running about like headless chickens as they try to work out how they broke it.

virgin.net just broke again.

Re: Weird mail error in Thunderbird

Glad it's not just me.
I expect it'll sort itself out if it's a general email issue.

Yep. Saw digitalfanatics posting in that other thread. I've shut the mailer down for the moment to avoid loosing any more. Guess we'll just have to be patient.
