Boltblue Email Problem

Hi,

I am a long time customer. Started with Cable and Wireless, became NTL then VIRGINMEDIA took over.( I am on the VM VIP Package 20MB BB etc)

As a result of the C&W move my Email was migrated to Boltblue years ago. This gave me an email address of xxxx.xxxx@boltblue.com.

Using the settings

POP3.boltblue.com and Smtp.ntlworld.com everything has worked fine for 5 years plus. Until now........Error Message below.

Unable to send or receive messages for the Dave.xxxxxxxx account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

Server: 'pop3.boltblue.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No

Can anybody offer any advice ? Support@boltblue.com seems to have closed down!

Thanks

Re: Boltblue Email Problem

The server refuses my connection from this VM connection, so the issue is server based and not connection/network based

Interesting.

The Boltblue pop server is hosted on an Amazon Cloud system, that could be the issue.

Re: Boltblue Email Problem

You will probably have to call technical support to get a Virginmedia email address if that one no longer exists as very shortly it would start to fail using our smtp servers once the domain moves finalise.

Or you can use another email provider such as www.gmx.com

Re: Boltblue Email Problem

I have the same profile as davyboy123. I am a long term user of Boltblue.com email and it just stopped working yestyerday at about 16:00 UK Time.

My Internet is not provided by Virgin Media so I think it is the Boltblue Email Server which is down

Does anybody know anything about this? Has Boltblue been taken over by Virgin?

Thanks

We do not deal with Boltblue and I was unaware of the email address until this thread.

Re: Boltblue Email Problem

I have the same problem. I went from being a Mercury Communications email address xy.xy@mcmail.com to Cable and Wireless with xy.xy@cwcom.net and then to Boltblue with the same suffixes, (xy.xy@boltblue.com). Similarly Friday afternoon I started to get errors in Outlook 2007 saying that server for Boltblue POP3 could not be contacted. I use BT and have to fudge the smtp part by using that for my own domain. (A battle I finally won with BT as I don't want to be some.one@BTConnect.com)

I've also found that their webmail portal also does not fetch mail even though the user name and password respond as valid

Whilst Boltblue has been off before, it is strange that it is taking so long and I fear the demise of an email adddress I have lodged with utlities, airlines, banks and countless others. I spent a good part of last night moving all manner of entity over to another address.

I also spent a good part of yesterday researching fora and news for BB only to find there's little not already quoted in these pages.

Did anyone get a warning? desoite the denial above I seem to recall something about VM taking over BB but nothing of the demise. I may well be jumping the gun in assuming the demise without warning, but this may be "Ofcom" teritory!

I fear it's R.I.P Boltblue!

Re: Boltblue Email Problem

Hi Almack,

I have an almost identical story...

I will be calling Boltblue on their listed telephone number on Monday so will keep this thread updated.

I can't beleive they would just take it down without any warning after 5 years. Lets hope it is a technical issue?

I have the Boltblue address address lodged with over 30 entities. Not to mention all my private contacts!

I would be interested in knowing how many people have been affected by this issue.

Re: Boltblue Email Problem

Thanks to everybody that responded to my post. Most helpful.

Using some of the info received I contacted the Amazon cloud people and got the following reply.

]Amazon.com to me
show details 4:19 AM (5 hours ago)
Hi Dave,

Although we cannot provide support for the customers of companies running services on the AWS platform, we have reached out to the account associated with the boltblue.com domain and asked them to contact you regarding this matter.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

-EC2 Abuse Team

Will update the thread if I receive a response. Boltblue used to run an email support service. It seems to have disappeared from their website.

Re: Boltblue Email Problem

What strikes me in this is that people are using an email like a bluebolt address for important contact/sign-in (for example banks..)

These emails are not guaranteed and as shown here can vanish without notice especially when they're linked to an ISP that vanished/merged many years ago..

Re: Boltblue Email Problem

Fair point Kymmy. I am not using it any more. But many entities have it and all I can do is backtrack through my mail and advise changes

Problem is that once you get into what appears to be a reliable regime, and Boltblue was reliable, you tend to stick with it. I've had no reason to move from it up till now. No doubt many others feel the same

My personal contacts were moved some time ago to a domain I registered through Mail2web. I have my own .com address and can administer my own mail. I'm moving all my corp entity stuff to an address I created there. I like to keep jokes and personal separate from utilities etc.

If they are UK registered then IMHO they have no right to just pull the plug!

Re: Boltblue Email Problem

Same here I use domains (have about a dozen) via a few different registrars, each registrar has a contact email using a domain not registered with them.. Have had this setup since mid '90s when I had an ISP go belly up and I suddently I found out I had lost control of a domain (had to fax copies of passport/address to the states before they'd reset details)

I know it doesn't help the current situation but something for bluebolt users to think aobut even if the service does come back online

Re: Boltblue Email Problem

Hi,

My Boltblue email has suddenly started working again. Have received all the backlogged mail.

Don't know why that is, but I am happy to have it back.

Hope all other Boltblue people are in the same position too.

Thanks
