Email Migration
I spoke to Virgin this morning about the email login/migration issues but I was left confused about the migration and how it affects me. I thought I would have the choice to keep my ntlworld.com address and create a viginmedia.com one if I wanted. The correspondence about the email upgrade said: "Your existing email address still works and we have no plans to change that." So I thought it would stay ntlworld.com forever.
What I'm told is that my old address will change to viginmedia.com as part of the migration and I would have to apply for them to manually keep my ntlworld.com address. This is fine because erradicating anything NTL is a good thing by me and I'm happy to have a virginmedia address. What I'm not happy about is what happens when someone sends to my old address at ntlworld.com. Will it automatically redirect to my Virginmedia address? And if so for how long? The guy on the phone didn't leave me feeling confident that would happen and I've not read anything that says this.

Re: Email Migration
As I understand it, you need to configure your present ntlworld.com e-mail address, following the links in the e-mail from Virgin media, after migration you will then be able to keep your existing ntlworld.com e-mail address.
You can change your ntl.com address to a virginmedia e-mail address if you want to.
If you create another e-mail account you cannot create one with an ntl.com address only a virginmedia one.
I think this is the correct information and it is what I have done with no problems.
I don't think that e-mail sent to your old address will be redirected, you will probably need to set up a virginmedia address and inform your contacts of your new address a while before you stop using your ntlworld.com address
Best wishes.

You will not have to change to @virginmedia.com if you don't want to. If you don't your @ntlworld.com address will keep working exactly the same as it does now.
If you do change to the @virginmedia.com version of your e-mail, anything sent to the @ntlworld.com will still be received.
However it's likely that if you do swap, you will only be able to send as @virginmedia.com

Re: Email Migration
If you have an email address already that ends in either @ntlworld.com or @blueyonder.co.uk and it is the primary email address then that will never change as you cannot delete the primary email address.
You can however delete all of your secondary email addresses and then add up to 9 new email alias using the @virginmedia.com addy, but you cannot use the email addresses that you have just deleted for 90 days, so do not delete an address that you want to keep.
For instance if you already have an email address of say joebloggs@ntlworld.com and you think I would rather have a joebloggs@virginmedia.com and you delete the joebloggs@ntlworld.com address then the system will not allow you to have the joebloggs@virginmedia.com for 90 days.

I already said that above, but you cannot delete your existing primary email address or even change the primary to a @virginmedia.com email address as the system does not allow it.

Re: Email Migration
Ok thanks for making that clear.
If I do nothing, then post-migration all my ntlworld.com addresses stay the same and I can keep them like that. That way I dont have to inform anyone of a change and risk losing mail. I got a different explanation from customer services today which is what got me asking this question.
However if I do decide to change to Viginmedia.com addresses, for a smooth transition, I have to create one then wait 90 days before deleting the old one. Except for my primary address - it will be stuck in NTL World forever, which will probably annoy some people.
Thanks.

I don't think you will need to delete your old address, as the new one will connect to the same mailbox.
As of yet however full details of the exactly process have yet to be announced

Re: Email Migration
Deletion of email addresses are now immediate so you don't have to wait 90 days

What is the situation with existing @ntlworld.com and @blueyonder.co.uk primary email addresses, can they ever be deleted and replaced with a @virginmedia.com as the primary email address, because at present you must keep the original one that was set up on the account.

I already knew that but wanted confirmation from someone actually involved in the migration itself.
Thanks for the information much appreciated.

Re: Email Migration
Has anyone any ideas on the timescales? I had an email in April saying it was happening in the "next few weeks".....
