Which part are you waiting for as you may have been migrated already, check in webmail via the Virginmedia homepage.

Logged into Webmail for the first time in years and got no messages etc. Said in the original email that they would "let me know" when it was done so I guess it's not. The part I'm waiting for it the migration from ntlworld.com to virginmedia.

To be honest, bearing in mind Virgin's terrible time keeping when it comes to projects, I just assumed that when they said it was coming in a few weeks, it might be done within a few months so never even thought about it till I saw this thread.

You did use mail.ntlworld.com to access webmail.

Your @ntlworld.com email address is not going to change to an @virginmedia.com address, all that is happening is that we are migrating the service onto the Googlemail platform.

If you want an @virginmedia.com address you can have one but your orginal primary email address will always be an @ntlworld.com address.

Thanks, I know the address wasn't changing. What I was waiting for was the email to say it had been done as it mentioned having to change your email settings before using the migrated accounts.

As I've not had an email, not had to change anything and am still receiving emails, I assumed Virgin were being their usual "coming soon" selves and it hadn't been done yet.

Are you saying differently? Unfortunately, as it's all down, I can't login to see if I can create virginmedia.com accounts. The "has my account been upgraded" box just redirects to the normal webmail login, as does mail.ntlworld.com

---------- Post added at 17:08 ---------- Previous post was at 16:33 ----------

Update - been able to login and I can create virginmedia mailboxes so I guess I've been migrated. Unfortunately, there's not much point as the addresses I already use on ntlworld.com have been taken on virginmedia.com.

I'm sure I read somewhere about them "reserving" them for you ages ago when Virgin took over although thinking on, when I changed from cwcom.net to ntlworld.com they didn't.

If someone was already using the same alias on a @virgin.net address or a @blueyonder.co.uk address and they decided to also have that alias as an @virginmedia.com then they would get that address before you.

Re: Email Migration

I thought as of yet they weren't doing that until everybody has been migrated, I for one haven't received an e-mail asking if I want the @virginmedia.com equivalent of my address yet

Re: Email Migration

Never mind, found it in the FAQ's

Quote:
Can I use the name I use in my e-mail address with @virginmedia.com as well?

At the moment you cannot use the name you use in your e-mail address with @virginmedia.com as well.

We have 'reserved' any existing names used in e-mail addresses in the three 'old' e-mail domains so that they cannot be allocated to any other customer.
For example, if the name richard.branson existed in the @blueyonder.co.uk domain no new customer would be able to use the same name ending in @virginmedia.com, as it is allocated for Richard to use (should he decide to) when we offer customers this opportunity later this year.
If the name exists in more than one domain – e.g. if the name richard.branson also exists in the @virgin.net domain – both address owners will be given an equal opportunity to have the address allocated to them.
We will be writing to customers with more information on this once the @ntlworld.com migration to Google is complete.
In the meantime if you try to get new names ending @virginmedia.com that are the same as your name in one of the 'old' e-mail domains in My Virgin Media, you will see a message saying the name has already been taken.

Been a while since I read that hence the removal of my previous post, I had completely forgotten about that.

Re: Email Migration

Hopefully then I can have the address I want, I'll wait for the mail.

I don't have the most common name so I thought it was weird it was already taken! Thanks Ben and Masque.

Right I just tried to set up a new email address using my primary email addresses 3 alias and my secondary account alias, and because they already exist as a @blueyonder.co.uk email address it will not let me have it as a @virginmedia.com address.

Now I know that you cannot change or delete the primary email address on every account so the is no way that you can ever have that account as a @virginmedia.com address.

Re: Email Migration

BUT, can you have both because I seem to remember reading that you could as long as you had enough available e-mail slots?

No because that is exactly what I tried to do.

For instance say you have benb@ntlworld.com and that is your primary email account and you go to selfcare and try to set up benb@virginmedia.com then you will receive a message saying that it is already taken, which it is by you.

Now if you have benb1@ntlworld.com as a secondary email address and you delete it then the system will then allow you to have benb1@virginmedia.com, and according to the migration administrator that can be done with immediate effect without any wait as previously.

Well you can delete the secondary and have a @virginmedia.com account with that alias or do as I did and just set up a new account with a variation on your present email address as in ben.b@virginmedia.com, the single dot makes all the difference.
