Email has stopped working.
Hi All
I have had no problems prior to today with my email, I use outlook 2007 and have not received any notification that my email is changing but today I am getting the following when trying to go into outlook.
Outlook is asking me to enter my username and password. I do this as it has always been but the box just keeps reappearing.
have I been migrated without being informed? If so how do I get outlook to work again?
Help anyone
Andy

Re: Email has stopped working.
Ok I have now checked using the webmail on the virgin website and I have obviously been migrated although they sent me an email to the email address that I could no longer access via outlook.
It seems that Outlook 2007 is not supported by virgin, they only support some of the crap software like outlook express.
Even so, I have now tried to create my account on express and I am having exactly the same issue with it asking my for my username and password over and over again. I have set up outlook exactly how they suggested on the website but nothing.
I was also under the impression that the size of my web page would be massively improved when I was migrated but thats a load of you know what as well. Web page size has had no increase.
This migration has done nothing for me apart from force me to use web mail which I hate.

Now that is strange as Outlook Express should setup a lot easier than Outlook using the settings in that section.
I would ring up tomorrow after 0800 and someone will help setup OE and if it works you can import the settings to Outlook.

Re: Email has stopped working.
Just a quick update.
I have managed to play around with outlook and I am now able to send emails but still get the username/password problem when trying to receive emails.

Re: Email has stopped working.
It might be worth trying to change your e-mail password via Webmail following the guidelines here http://help.virginmedia.com/system/v...4-EFECC91842C0
I know they are enabling weak password security rules on the mail system at the moment - blueyonder.co.uk got changed this week

Re: Email has stopped working.
Thanks Ben, but that didnt make any difference.
Still able to send emails from outlook but not receiving anything.
Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

Re: Email has stopped working.
I use Outlook 2007 and the following settings have been working fine for the past month with no problems.
Set Incoming Mail to pop3.ntlworld.com
Set Outgoing server to smtp.virginmedia.com
User Name:- full email address
Password: your normal password
Click on More Settings;
then Outgoing Server;
Tick Box (My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication)
Make sure button Use same settings as my incoming mail is on.
Click on Advanced Tab;
set incoming port to 995
set outgoing port to 465
Set encryption to SSL
Click on OK
Then all should work fine

Re: Email has stopped working.
Hi All
My problem is similiar and I contacted NTL E-Mail staff and it appears according to them that all (5) e-mail addresses have been removed and no record is available.
I have had these addresses for the last 11 years but they are unable to find them.
I will have to wait at least 5 days before I receive an answer, what a problem as at first I was given reset instructions then told they could find no record of use over the past years.
I feel this may be a account issue as I am close to my monthly limit but have no proof of this but the next bill will be paid by direct debit within the next 5 days coincidence or not.
Anyone else experienced this as I am desperate to receive E-Mails as I rely on outside contact with various organisations I am involved with.
Thank you in anticipation

Re: Email has stopped working.
What you describe are what are called 'Orphaned Accounts'. Due to some records issues, some e-mail addresses have become disconnected from any billing or broadband account.
They still work, but there is no way to identify who the e-mail address belongs to. However once the owner can provide details as to which account the e-mail address should be attached to, then Virgin can do so within the 5 days.

Hi BenMcr thanks for that, I have experienced the same problem as
arthurbest
Used e-mail accounts on Outlook Express for several years now and then all of a sudden.
Keeps popping up on my Outlook Express 6 again and again asking me to enter password but it doesn't work.
Now strangely to some extent I appear to be able to send e-mails

Re: Email has stopped working.
I would follow what it says. Contact VM with details of your e-mail address and your billing account. Virgin should then be able to tie the two together to resolve your issue
