I'm experiencing all the same problems...
POP this, SMTP that, server up, server down...
WTF does it all mean ???
Look, everything was working perfectly fine...now it isn't...simple.
What's gone wrong ?
Why the changes ?
How on earth do I get it all working again?
Does anybody have any idiot proof (as I'm a complete tool when it comes to computer stuff) step by step details on any changes that can be made to get it all working again ??
To me...POP is something that comes in a bottle or can...
A server is something or someone that serves me something...
SMTP ?? No idea on that one..pass.
HELP ??

Found this link, I'm going to try the step by step instructions for setting up Windows Mail ...I'll post the results...fingers crossed...I'm delving into the unknown now....

If it's any consolation, I do understand the jargon and it's infuriating me at the mo. In a nutshell VM's email service is currently a crock... It should NOT be running as badly as this. Until the platform changed there were occasional problems, but nothing on the scale of what I've seen over the last few weeks. It seems to me that it's been an extremely poorly implemented migration. I wouldn't blame Gmail's platform as their own email accounts do not have the same problems. It's bad enough being told to use webmail on every VM help page (I use webmail as an emergency means of accessing my mail-I prefer to use Outlook Express to stay open in the background, checking periodically for new messages-can't do that with webmail!). Now when I try to use webmail, that's down too-is it that so many people are now having problems with their POP clients that they are heeding VM's advice and using webmail, overloading the system and crashing it?????
Come on VM, get it sorted!
OK, rant over-time for lunch!

The email outage is now affecting all platforms including @ntlworld.com, @blueyonder.co.uk and @virginmedia.com.

It wasn't so bad when you could revert to Webmail. So now that has also stopped working today it is total chaos.
This issue has been going on for months, it is quite obvious that the migration team are inept and have drawn up an extremely poor migration plan that has no adequate fallback processes.
Virgin Media, get your act together or create even more disatisfied customers!!!!

I'm redirecting my ntlworld accounts to a standard gmail account. At least that's working reliably at the moment...

OE is not accepting my password.
However I can access my account through webmail..
Mind a very long time ago I started redirecting all my email to my Gmail account.I'm still getting all my ntlworld.com mail in my gmail inbox.

Have been experiencing password/inactivity problems on and off for the last 7 or so days.  Have migrated most of my mail needs to other addresses, but its still bloody annoying.

Ditto  ... Mail IS now working, sort-of, though all too often
after entering name (@ntlworld.com) and password the screen
crashes with a "cannot find server" error, though when you login
a SECOND time all seems well. THEN, ('least on dial-up), it takes
(too long) to get to the actual Inbox/Folders screen.
Please DON'T say again you have "improved" Webmail, NTL, as you
have, (imo), messed up what was once a decent,reliable Email service.
Oh, did I say Dial-Up ? ? ?... Well, since my Email is now seriously
SLOW, ( and my set-top box remote has recently broken),
this would NOT be a good time for a virginmedia "nuisance call" trying to
get me to sign-up for their broadband service ... yet again !!
