Re: Email has stopped working.
Yup it is, you can't currently use smtp.ntlworld.com unless you are at home.
This should change later this year, but dates haven't been confirmed.

Change the appropriate parts to ntlworld.com

I forgot as my Nokia N8 just does it after putting in the username and password the setup is a lot easier than most phones.

Re: Email has stopped working.
Assuming your phone provider has set you up with an email address on their system (o2 do this automatically and I assume the rest do) then you can simply use the phone provider's smtp server in place of the ntlworld smtp server for your outgoing mail settings on your phone.
If your phone provider doesn't have one, you could set up a gmail address and use their smtp server which is setup to allow connections from 3G.
The fact that you have routed the reply mail out via someone else's smtp server will be transparent to the recipient of the email - they will still see your ntlworld address in the from field when they receive it if that's what you've set up in the account's properties on the phone.

Re: Email has stopped working.
hi folks, was having some trouble with my modem (i've had it years from when ntl started in our area) so Virgin sent a techie out today and he replaced it with the new super hub. all was well again or so i thought. i tried going into outlook 2007 to check my emails and it kept asking for my password etc. the same problem everyone else was having here a few months ago. here's the thing, i share this laptop with a few people in the house and they are still able to use outlook to receive their emails. they are using the same old settings i.e.
incoming server: pop.ntlworld.com
outgoing server: smtp.ntlworld.com
More settings are as follows:
outgoing server tab - no tick in the box
advanced tab - incoming server (pop3) 110
no encryption
- outgoing server (smtp) 25
no encryption
so why all of a sudden has this happened to me i am not the main account holder so that might have something to do with it.
any help would be appreciated.

Try logging through webmail and see if that works for you because if it works for you it just means theres a problem with the servers and your accounts are fine.

Re: Email has stopped working.
Yes i can get on to webmail, and in fact in work today, i was able to get emails using outlook as i have them frowarded from my webmail account.
It's just my home laptop that is having the problem. should i just contact VM and see if they can help. I'm assuming they would know hoe to fix it since this problem has been around for a few monnths know!
ps. surely if it was a server problem the other folks in the house wouldn't be able to get their emails through outlook, which they can. nothing seems to have changed for them - they are still usint the old ntlwolrd settings and everthing

To be honest I'd post a message on the Offical Virgin Media forum - they'll help you and if you really are having trouble they'd be able to find out what the problem is for you. They've solved a number of issues I've had within 1 hr to 1day lol.

Re: Email has stopped working.
Is there a problem with the ntl email programme today. I just looged in, the system froze, and I couldn't access the Internet. When I logged in to email, it gave the message, did I want to wait or stop. I stopped it but had to reboot before I could access the Internet. Webmail is fine.
