Do you happen to know what's the current position on 'missing e-mails? By that I mean stuff from say Tuesday night until early yesterday afternoon.

And another related question, if the email sytem is hosted on Google Apps, why when access is regained are the backlog of e-mails not already sitting there waiting to be picked up from the Google servers?

Just curious, as I'd assumed that apart from validating ID etc via VM the actual e-mail part of the system was now all processed & hosted by Google Apps

Since my post on 29.07.10 I have had no problem with my pop3 email using Outlook 2007 with Windows 7 and @ntlworls.com account. Perhaps as Masque said, VM must have fixed the problem at 1330hours on 29.07.2010. My settings are:- Account Type: POP3, Incoming Mail Server pop.ntlworld.co, Outgoing Mail Server smtp.virginmedia.com, remember password box checked, unchecked "require logon using Secure Password Authenticatio (SPA), checked "My outgoing server (SMPT) requires authentication" box in the Outgoing Server tab and I checked "use same settings as my incoming mail server", and under Advanced tab used Server Port Numbers POP3 995 with checked box for "this server requires an encrypted connection (SSL), Outgoing server (SMPT) 465 and "use the following type of encrypted connection" SSL.
The above is working for me just fine. Sorry to be so long winded.

They might class this latest "upgrade" as a free, but I'm sure the various internet packages list email as part of the deal - i.e. contract.

Email is not listed as part of any package as it is a free addon and you can use any email address you choose as you are not tied to using the address Virginmedia supply.

It's a Value Added Service and is not part of any contract with Virgin Media.

It is a free addon nothing more hence the reason why you would receive no recompense for email downtime as it is free to use.

I'm getting this - posted on another thread as well.

An error occurred during a connection to pop3.ntlworld.com:995.

SSL received a record with an incorrect Message Authentication Code.

(Error code: ssl_error_bad_mac_read)
