@ntlworld.com e-mail migration
Quote:
Hello,
At Virgin Media, we're always looking for ways to give you the best you can get from your broadband connection. Among other things, that means keeping you in the loop with our brand new Virgin Media Mail.
Virgin Media Mail is a new upgrade to your existing ntlworld.com email account, provided by Google, so it comes packed with great extras that we know you're going to love. We'll move your current ntlworld.com email account over the next few weeks, and then send you a welcome email to tell you when it's all done.
Your existing ntlworld.com email address will still work, and we're not planning to change it. We'll also make sure that your emails and messages stay safe and sound, and are transferred over to your new account. However, for security reasons, certain file formats are not allowed as attachments in our new mail service, as they are very often used to distribute viruses or other malicious software. You should back up your attachments as they may not be moved to the new service. Common attachments such as pictures and Word documents will be moved, but executable files (such as files ending in '.exe') will not be moved. You can find more detailed information on our help site.

I don't want to change it.I've had it for years and I cannot possibly remember where I use it and where I don't.
As for the attachments it's not always under my control and I think it's a bit much especially as I use webmail rather than download it.

But you don't have to change anything, it functions just like before, except it will be faster and more stable as Google is hosting it.

I know I'm just pointing out that I don't intend to but I'm annoyed about the attachments.
Anyway I get my ntlworld email forwarded to my Gmail account.

Re: @ntlworld.com e-mail migration
Arghh, Due to the upgrade in progress I can't change or add any email addresses.
Major pain since I've setup an account on a website with an incorrect address (my fypo fingers strike again). I thought I'd changed it but obviously not since the site's password resend things recognised the wrong email addy. I'd love to temporarily check that new email account so I can access the website again (the password also fails). I'd be suprised if anyone else has this obscure email, or equally if they do have it, I really need to know that before they spend more of my money. Doesn't help that the website is getting a tad confused with DPA protection since I can't prove that I am the account user, yet I've managed to spend £450.00 with them

You are not going to lose a thing but it will get a lot better, instead of a measly 30Mb inbox you will receive a 7400Mb inbox and the use of Googlemails own excellent Spam filter.
While we are in the process of the migration the way you login will change for a short time taking you through 2 screens instead of 1, this is just for security.
Once it is all in place and you are using it you will wonder what all the fuss was about.
Any questions Maggy you can always PM me.

TBH, the size of the inbox means little to me, my e-mails are never that big, and dont stay on the account long enought to reach 30Mb, nevermind 7400Mb. As to the spam filter, ive never found the ntl/virgin one to be a problem, it works nicely.

The spam filter is much better than the NTL filter.

The Gmail filter is far superior to the Virgin one.

From the email Ben B received: Virgin Media Mail ... comes packed with great extras that we know you're going to love.
|
What are they? And how do you know that I'm going to love them ?????

No, "we" don't, you haven't migrated my account yet. So to repeat Paul M's original question: Better / superior in what way exactly ?
