Re: @ntlworld.com e-mail migration

Hi guys. I'm new to this forum and I'm here purely because of the new NTL setup. Hopefully, someone can help with my problem.

I've updated the appropriate settings. I only use one machine, I don't wish to access my mail from anywhere else and I want them stored on that one machine so POP is the perfect answer for me.

However, and here's the rub. If I update the settings on the web based virgin page and tell it to disable IMAP and activate POP for all mail from this point forward, it works a treat. It does exactly what I need it to. The next day however, I have to go back into the web version and remind it what settings I wanted. However, to get the mail I received that day, I have to tell it to POP recent mail which means I get all yesterdays stuff all over again. What can't it hold onto that setting where I tell it to enable POP for everything?

If it makes any difference, I'm running a mac and using mac mail. However, it's just that one flippin' setting on the virign site that's doing my noodle in.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Re: @ntlworld.com e-mail migration

Well, (NEW Problem alert ?!?) ...

For the first time since, it seems, end of MAY, I managed to get
into the new, transferred Email, (though during Login DID get the
screen where it says you're still BEING transferred)...

Used it briefly in "Basic HTML" mode, then turned Java ON for the
regular email, and deleted over 900 messages recieved since May ...

Sent a test message ... all worked ...so logged out...

Now, the Logout link...

htps://identity.virginmedia.com/vm_sso/idp/logout.action?referrer=google.com

... seemed to "lock" 3/4 way through,
and never went to the "You are logged out" or whatever next
page. Soooo, I tried to login IN again ... but THIS time the system
seemed to detect a "slow connection" and would only let me in
using the "Basic HTML" view.

As I'm the ONLY one using this computer, I looked for a "Stay
Logged-In" option as Yahoo Mail has, but couldn't see one,
so wonder is it POSSIBLE to stay logged-in ...(permanently)... ?!?
so as, once IN using Mail with the "Standard", (Java ON) version,
I don't need to go through a handful of Login screens/Refreshed Pages
each time ? ? ?

Re: @ntlworld.com e-mail migration

I understood that VM were reserving the equivalent firstname.lastname.virginmedia.com mailboxes for firstname.lastname.ntlworld.com customers.

But when I tried to create the equivalent virginmedia.com mailbox I got an error message:

Sorry, this address is already taken. Please choose another address. Some suggestions of available names have been given to you in the dropdown.
Have they still not finished the rollout?

Sorry to dig up an old thread

I managed to grab mine but I think it was on a first come first served basis once the rollout finished

If you already have for instance cookie@ntlworld.com then you cannot have cookie@virginmedia.com as the alias is already taken, so you would need to delete cookie@ntlworld.com before the system will allow to to add cookie@virginmedia.com, but if the alias you want to delete is your Primary email address then the system will not allow that to happen so you would need to add a new alias of say cookie1@virginmedia.com instead.

Re: @ntlworld.com e-mail migration

See this is going round in circles for me as different people are telling me different things ..

http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...om/td-p/199057

Suggest the first come first served idea is still happening .. but according to a few people from VM, it's now not ..

Which part is his ? I've heard a lot of PMs on the migration, but never heard Dans name ?

Not saying he isn't just interested.

Re: @ntlworld.com e-mail migration

Just to clarify that your current addresses are still reserved on the virginmedia.com domain.

We have a few issues we need to resolve before we start rolling this out. When we are ready to release them we will email all customer with the same address on each domain so danbayliss@blueyonder.co.uk, danbayliss@ntlworld.com & danbayliss@virgin.net will receive an email. The first one to request danbayliss@virginmedia.com will get it.

I don't suggest you delete your current address as if someone has the same addresses on another domain it will remain reserved and you won't be emailed when its made available on the virginmedia.com domain.
