Exclamation E-mail connection can receive but not send

Using a NTLworld e-mail address I find that using a BT hub I can receive e-mails but get the following message when I try to send:
An error occured when sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: aamtaout02-winn.ispmail.ntl connection refused from **.***.**.**[/I]

I now understand that this is a problem NTL/Virgin have with connections through BT hubs. Don't contact Virgin they will tell you its your machine and suggest all kinds of useful and expensive remedies.

Most ISPs will not allow you to send email to their SMTP server unless you are directly connected to their internet service. It's an antispam measure.

Re: E-mail connection can receive but not send

Just use the BT SMTP servers to send the NTLWORLD emails.. As Rob says ISP's don;t normally allow their SMTP servers to be used by anyone not on thier connection (though some do allow this with a username/password..)

Check the BT site for RELAYING help

Re: E-mail connection can receive but not send

If you are connecting through a BT line then as the guys above have said it will not work using SMTP, if you really need to use your NTL account on another ISP then try using Webmail using your email address and password.
