Blueyonder e-mail on iphone 3g?
Hello,
Until recently (the vm email upgrade) I could send a receive e-mails fine from the mail client on my iphone 3g. Now I am unable to send e-mails.
I have played around trying to use both pop3 and imap4 without success, has anyone got this working?
many thanks
Rich

Re: Blueyonder e-mail on iphone 3g?

VM's SMTP server will only send email from a client with a VM IP address - to prevent spamming.
I guess the BY server wasn't as strict.
I'm afraid you will need to route outgoing mail through the ISP's (O2?) smtp server or possibly gmail's.

Obviously that advice only stands if he was using the 3G to send email rather than connecting via WiFi to a router connected to a/his BY connection

That's not true. the Virgin Media Mail (google based) e-mail service allows authenticated SMTP access from anywhere in the world.
The updated settings for the e-mail for @blueyonder.co.uk are HERE

Interesting - another well documented change
So when do us NTLWorld types get migrated?

After the @blueyonder.co.uk customers. Not sure when it will start as I'm sure they will be looking at what's happened with the current migration before starting the next one.
Though at a guess it would be done by middle of the year

Re: Blueyonder e-mail on iphone 3g?
thanks for your help so far, I'm still struggling with this, its unable to retrieve e-mails now, complaining it cannot to connect to imap4.blueyonder.co.uk.
I'm using on an O2 simplicity contract with unlimited web (my iphone contract ended recently)
I have attached some images on the iphone mail settings for this account, I have masked some of my e-mail address to prevent spam.
Cheers

Re: Blueyonder e-mail on iphone 3g?
That's all the correct settings, I really haven't a clue why it's not working

Re: Blueyonder e-mail on iphone 3g?
hello,
In Advanced Settings try port 110 with SSL off.
Also make sure the username is the original username for your account not an alias that you might have setup.

On the first screenshot it is showing as a "POP Account", however you are trying to use an IMAP server.
If you want to use IMAP you need to set this up as an IMAP account.

Re: Blueyonder e-mail on iphone 3g?
I have just called Orange iphone support and the only thing they could suggest was to change the ports so I did to their recommendations:
pop3.blueyonder.co.uk should be port 995 and smtp.blueyonder.co.uk 465.
My 3g iphone works perfectly now.
Hope this helps.
