outlook 2007 e-mail account
Hi all..
My problem is using my ntlworld mail address in outlook 2007. I created the account putting all data in correctly, details came from virgin tech helpline.(password, username and email address).
Allthough I've been an ntl/virgin customer for several years I've allways used web based email accounts, this time I thought I'd make use of the virgin email accounts.
Unfortuately, when I get to the testing part of account creation, I get an error message..
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Server: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR account is currently inactive.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
As you can see, the password was rejected despite me using the same password given to me by the tech help desk.(password=welcome).I would like to know what the "acount is currently inactive" means?
Do I have to somehow activate the account, I searched the forums but can't find anything helpfull..any help would be very much appreciated, thanks.

If you have not used your ntlworld email account for a while then you will need to call Tech Support on 151 option 3 or 0845 454 1111 option 3 from a BT line to have it re activated.
Outlook is an unsupported by Virginmedia but if you know your username and password you should be able to use the details from this link for setting up Outlook Express below.
Outlook Express setup for NTL and TELEWEST

Re: outlook 2007 e-mail account
They don't support Outlook because it is mainly used in corporate enviroments and Virgin Broadband is a residential service.
Just say you need the settings for Outlook Express/Windows Mail as they are exactly the same

The best way to check if your username and password work when Tech Support reset it is to have SELFCARE open and try to log into with the new password. https://selfcare.virginmedia.com/IIPSCVM/ if you can log into their then your emails will work.

Re: outlook 2007 e-mail account
Thanks Whydoineed...I logged into selfcare ok, So the password works.
I still can't get outlook to work tho, and I've tried every combination/configuration I could find including the helpfull how too's on CF. It just doesnt connect when I open outlook and the windoe pops up with my details in it, and it says click to connect...it seems to send something, but the window pops up again with a failed message, it does not seem to wait long enough to get a reply from the server.
Is there any other way I can access my virgin mailbox besides outlook?
I'm running xp pro sp2

Re: outlook 2007 e-mail account
Had some problems with ex-blueyonder e-mail and Outlook myself, IMAP seems to work a treat.

Re: outlook 2007 e-mail account
Thanks xocemp..tried the imap...no change.
What about having msn hotmail on the puter as well, could it be interfering with OE..
Whydoineedatech, do know where the details are for pinging the pop and smtp servers?

Re: outlook 2007 e-mail account
C:\Documents and Settings\UserXP>ping pop3.blueyonder.co.uk
Pinging pop3.blueyonder.co.uk [195.188.53.61] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 195.188.53.61: bytes=32 time=66ms TTL=118
Reply from 195.188.53.61: bytes=32 time=47ms TTL=118
Reply from 195.188.53.61: bytes=32 time=51ms TTL=118
Reply from 195.188.53.61: bytes=32 time=47ms TTL=118
Ping statistics for 195.188.53.61:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 47ms, Maximum = 66ms, Average = 52ms
There you go buddy, just replace pop3 for smtp to ping smtp servers.
And ntlworld.com are for ex-ntl areas.
Having hotmail won't cause any problems
Let us know how you get on.

If you ring in we can check the servers for you on your connection.

Re: outlook 2007 e-mail account
Only the ones that came with xp and office 2007, that's outlook express and office outlook.
Can you suggest another client Graham?
I did the dos ping test and it gave me average time of 25ms for the pop server and 29ms for the smtp server. no packets lost and a TTL=120 overall. So I guess my connection is ok, I could be wrong.
Yanno, all this is quite ridiculas really, when I had ntl dialup and ran win95b I set up my mail in mins...you'd think I could manage this new fangled software would'nt you..lol
