Just an update on my probs.
I finally got a co-operative support lady on the fone who, after walking me thru the creating an account in OE, took the initiative when it did'nt work.
She tried accessing my mailbox via her computer and that didnt work either.
So, after being left on hold for 20 mins of fabulous music.

She decided that second tier techs were not going to answer the fone and said I would hear back from second tier techs within four days....am I bening fobbed off or are they really going to fone me to tell me the problem is sorted?
I wait in anticipation with huge exoectations...
