Re: spam email problem

best bet is to log into the account management portal & kill the address, if you are ex TW or ex NTL (on the ex sms platform) you can do that now, If you are ex NTL on the SABS/ICMS platform, no changes can be made till the 5th/6th of May.

Re: spam email problem

Hmm this is very simple to explain

Its called spoofing & is very achievable to do via Telnet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoofing_attack

Anyone that is web technology fluent can achieve this. Sometimes it can last for a period of up to 2-3 weeks. Sometimes longer. The only real way to *try* and stop this is SPF Records & Domain Keys

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sender_Policy_Framework
&
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Keys

Wether the VM email system supports this is another matter

Hope this helps

I'm not sure what the email account in question is, but I'm not sure you should have included the password (unless you have changed it, of course).

Re: spam email problem

If you are on the ex TW platform & both addreses are set up on the same inbox, then both would share the same password, if set up on seperate inboxes, only the affected address would have had the password changed.

If on the ex NTL platform, then only the affected address would have had the password changed.

I wouldn't delete the primary mail account!
But you definitely need to change the password now that you've broadcast it here!
(You should be able to do that through the same Selfcare section of the VM website.)

Re: spam email problem

i left a voice mail message & they just rung me back. they'v locked my primary email account (as i dont use it) so no one can use it. he also said that its a known problem, with alot of 419 scammers hacking into ppls accounts to send spam & that their only cutting ppl off in extreme cases, so all should be sorted now. thanks for the advice ppl.

---------- Post added at 15:31 ---------- Previous post was at 15:22 ----------

can an admin plz delete the images as it wont let me.

thanks

although that is a solution, i find it rare that people bother to put SPF DNS records so setting up SPF on a mail server doesn't cut spam out by much, if at all.
