NTL Provisioning Page... Disconnected? :|
Hey there guys, Nice forums here!
Basically I was downloading a few songs yesterday, using FrostWire - its the first time I've connected to a P2P network in *ages*. So I was downloading 8 or 9 tracks.
Anyway, my connection just went. Stopped completely. So I done the usual rebooting of the STB, then the router, then the PC's. [2, One wired to a Linksys router, one using wifi]
It still didn't work. Fast forward a few hours and everytime I try and get on the net I am greeted by the NTL provisioning page. Asking for information that we don't have... [Who keeps the welcome letter for 2 years?!]
So I decided to ring up the number [25p a minute.. When in all fairness, you should only be ringing it when they have messed up.] and got a friendly chap who basically couldn't give me any help. As I needed to answer security questions, and I was only ringing up on *behalf* of the account holder. Thats fair enough I thought, so I asked him if he could give me any *possibilities* as to what could be wrong - once again, I got a no.
So now I am waiting for the account holder to come in - then I'll try and ring again.
My worries are that it happened during my first file sharing lapse in weeks maybe months. I haven't been disconnected have I?! I really need the internet and cant do without it for study and stuff!
Any ideas as to what it could be guys?
Thanks!

It could be your router caching something or your local machine caching.
The modem could of dropped the settings for what ever reason!
You could try
Close all browsers first
Start >> Run >> CMD
ipconfig /flushdns
That could do something!

Its more likely that the box has been updated, or something on the system has been updated. Mine used to do it now and again

It's probably a coincidence.. File sharing itself is not illegal, and also not against the terms and conditions of service, so Virgin would be on dodgy ground cutting you off for just that.
edit: Yes I know that whatever you were downloading may not have been legal, but the chances against you even getting caught on your first go are astronomical.

Im just looking to put my mind at rest basically, as its going to be a *massive* inconvenience if I have been cut off. I can't see it happening for a few songs though...

Thanks guys! Well I just got the official verdict... The STB had forgotten my routers MAC address. I'm not quite sure how it happened - neither was the tech support chappie.
However, I was rather impressed by the ability to see which websites I went on to check the network functionality. [He successfully noticed I was on google, then the BBC website.] Rather impressive, if a little scary!

I wouldn't of thought so but I guess the modem has some sort of history to a certain extent. We would need an official word from VM i guess!

erm, no, but I can see the mac address of what ever is connected to the modem or (shudder) stb, via a handy tool called dtv stats (on the ex NTL network).

On EX-Telewest we use ISA and it does the same job as DTV.
