Hi there.

And welcome to the forums.

Can you confirm what error message your getting with Outlook?

One Presumes your ISP is Virgin Media?

Who provides the email?

Regards
Richard

Re: Microsoft Outlook 2003

Your IP suggests you are using a BT connection. Are you sending email through a BT address or something else?

Most email can only be sent to a server hosted by the ISP you are connected to. Thus if you are on a virgin media (ex ntl) service, you have to send your email via the smtp.ntlworld.com server. However if you are using your PC on a different ISPs service, and trying to send an email using your virgin media account, you have to use the other ISPs mail server to send, as Virgin Media (and most ISP) as an antispam measure, only accept mail from inside their network.

You might need to change your port number from the default 25 but that will only work if VM offer another port for smtp!

You on a laptop or desktop? Is this at home with a VM BB? Or around a friends?

Can you still sign-in here http://www.virginmedia.com/account/sign-in.php

Using PC from desktop ..

After bi of messing around i carried out a 'test account settings' via email options..came back okay with the exception of 'send test email failed' & the following reply
''Outlook could not log on to the ougoing server, the problem could be he server name, your server may require authentacation or your server may not support SSL ..

Being completely honest it's all jargon to me but im willing to take advice and learn, please refrain form codes & normal board talk as im a complete novice ..
Car Mechanic is my game should i be able to reutrn the favour

Ps .. causing me no end of bother as trying to pring out an email for a hotel im meant to be staying at on sunday

Re: Microsoft Outlook 2003

Within Outlook

Click....

Tools
--Email Accounts -left click.

View or change existing email account (make sure there's a green dot next to that) and then click next.

Click your email account(the one your using to send/receive mail), then click change, top left.

Click more settings, bottom right.

Click the fourth tab, Advanced setting. Now un-tick the box under "This server requires an encrypted connection" (SSL)

Then click OK.

Exit Outlook and then restart.

Working?

You will need to change your smtp to a bt one! So the above should not make any difference.

As your new address is using BT Broadband.

If you just need to print out mail goto http://www.virginmedia.com/account/sign-in.php and enter user name and password.

This might help.

Before reading login to your mail online and read/print it out. Then relax and come back later.

Re: Microsoft Outlook 2003

If you're trying to send e-mail from an old ntl address but are now on BT broadband, see this page starting at the heading:

Want to keep an e-mail address from a previous supplier (such as Freeserve/Wanadoo)?
