Using NTL email on a BT line?

I have had BB installed for a few years now but have kept up a pay by the minute NTL dial-up account in case of any faults with my BB connection. I'm taking my laptop with me on a holiday to visit relatives who have no internet access at all. Is it possible to use my NTL dial-up settings to access the internet on their BT line? Does this need any change to the settings?

If not, can anyone recommend a dial-up account which can be registered without installing any software? As I'll only be using it for a week or so, it has to be a pay as you go rather than a monthly lump sum.

Thanks in advance.

You could always use webmail to access your account:

Yes, but I need access to the internet first. Part of the reason for taking my laptop with me is to let my (slightly aged!) relatives get familiar with the internet before they buy their own computer, so I would like to use my laptop in their house over their BT connection. So will my NTL account be able to dial-up on a BT line?

Get something like a Tiscali PAYG account http://www.tiscali.co.uk/products/pa...ode=ZZ-NL-11FG

Re: Using NTL email on a BT line?

AFAIK the dial-up number for NTL is different if you are calling over an NTL line than if you are calling over a BT line. You will need to sign up with a different PAYG provider. This shouldn't be difficult, there are tonnes of them about. Give 0845 Dial a go - you don't even need to supply bank details as they take their fee as a cut of the call charge you incur by dialling their 0854 'lo-call' number. The sign-up screen is incredibly simple and it appears you don't even have to register your full home contact details with them.

Re: Using NTL email on a BT line?

Thanks for the suggestions. I've set up a dial-up account with the settings from www.0845access.co.uk. No software needs to be installed nor do any forms need to be filled in. It should do the job nicely. Thanks again.

http://emergencyinternet.com/ is useful for this sort of thing as well, since it doesn't require registration: just dial 08451 12 12 12 with any username/password.
