Do ntl block Spam?
I'm sure I read that ntl have some sort of Spam blocking service. I know this is changing soon to Brightmail but I was wondering what, if anything, they have now?
Its just that I get dozens of Spam items each day and use a third party piece of software to deal with them.
Thanks

If they do block it then it isn't working on my account as I get loads of it every day!

Not as much as if they removed the blocking.

Re: Do ntl block Spam?
If NTL do block spam then the software they are using is useless. I receive loads everyday!
I have various webmail accounts and receive hardly any via those services.

Now that's one to note down and get witnesses for .... A female that isn't worried about size ....

Discusssion on the issue below.

Worth noting that ntl's current solution is based on IP blocking and NOT content filtering. Filtering will be introduced slowly over the coming months, and will be user configurable.

I would personally prefer to delete 100 spam messages than miss one vitally important one becuase it was blocked accidentally.

Exactly why it should be user configurable...........

Re: Do ntl block Spam?
We use Messagelabs at work. They have recently changed their system to use a signature matching system (from Brightmail) as the first line of defence rather than a Heuristic technique. The signature system seems to have a very low false positive rate, unlike the Heuristic and IP systems. The signature systems take out something like 95% of the SPAM now.
Incidentally Messagelabs have just started blocking emails sent directly from some cable modem IPs on NTLs network which are currently in the DUL blacklist. Not sure whether you would say this is a false positive or not!

Re: Do ntl block Spam?
I'd be happy with 100% DUL blocking - I tried using a desktop SMTP server once, to dodge having to connect using old accounts (read ok, and switch sending to being local), but a lot of destinations did DUL block - and these days, there is even more reason to consider all DUL direct sending as 100% hostile.

ntl uses SORBS, which has a DUL list, so that is likely.

Re: Do ntl block Spam?
isnt the best thing to do when combating spam........make a new email address, make sure everyone knows your new email address and then delete the old account?

Re: Do ntl block Spam?
Unfortunately not possible if the account being spammed is your primary NTL one.
You could, of course, tell your email client not to download any email from there but then you would miss any announcements that NTL sent out via email.
