NTL Spam detection
Evenin
Anyone here feel that the NTL blocking of spam has waned a bit recently. i was very happy when they introduced and noticed a great reduction but of late my spam hits have crept back up again..... anyone
oh i know it could be the spammers becoming ever more cunning until NTL's outsourced solution catches up but i'm curious has anyone else noticed?

Messagelabs March Report makes interesting reading linked to at http://www.messagelabs.com/emailthreats/ also click on the spam tab on the graphs. This shows a growing trend of spam mail with a slight dip in March but i gather that April will increase.
Spam generally is on the increase so if NTL block x% and allow y% then as spam mail gets bigger every month so does the y% amount that gets through. There is also an article on spam zombie bots on the October link on that url i gave above zombie bots are harder to overcome.
NTL's system is NOT outsourced by the way

Re: NTL Spam detection
Frick ntl's spam detection, that's not too bad; it's MSN/Hotmail that need to improve theirs, and that's all unsolicited. Plus I don't really give my email address out, I use separate ones for forums/getting serials/signing up for stuff etc etc... silly aren't they?
The "Report Junk" doesn't sort it very well either.

Re: NTL Spam detection
u see i knew i'd get hammered for that 'outsourced' remark... ok did i not read it on this forum or is it that they are using a set up provided by another company.... anyhow didn't mean anythin by it.
i take on board how you've explained the spam, makes sense. I use Spampal which i'm very happy with so its not as if any of it makes the slightest difference. Just glad that its a general trend a not a piece of software not running properly or a router misconfigured.

Re: NTL Spam detection
spam, eggs, sausage and spam?
seriously though, I thought Hotmail's spam filter worked quite well... any I've received at any time has gone straight to Junk Mail.
I havent used my NTL email account for a long time, but I just checked it a moment ago on webmail (that was a long winded process... so slow!) and no spam... I used to get quite a few.

Well not all of mine does, and even then Thunderbird picks up the bulk folder.
I've reported them and still, instead of the ****ing stuff not getting through like it's supposed to, it goes into the bladdy inbox.
But then, MSN are the most incompetent buffoons I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with so it doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
