Sending GMAIL via NTL
am I the only one having problems sending email via Outlook and smtp.gmail.com ?
Pop Gmail coming in works fine but I am unable to send. I even played around with ports but this was futile.

Re: Sending GMAIL via NTL
useful info above thanks..
I was a bit hopeful when I noticed that microsoft specified Gmail and not gmail for the smtp section.
No joy.
Clicking test the 1st 4 compelete, including 'finding smtp' but the test send fails.
Time to configure 'Thunderbird' and try that.
I am also behind a 'Router' so am wondering if that has anything to do with it.
.................................................. ...............................
ok, just tried Thunderbird and it works fine!!!!!!!!!
Time to do a permanent switch maybe.

Re: Sending GMAIL via NTL
Use ntl's smtp [smtp.ntlworld.com] instead... that definitely works.

Are you remembering that Gmail have some weird settings with the secure connection and the ports, best double check them on the site. Also I sometimes find Outlook bodges up the details on the accounts, the only way to fix it is to remove the account from Outlook and re-create it.

Why ?
It makes little difference to e-mail whose smtp you use. I thought the main point of gmail was for the storage and incoming mail.

Re: Sending GMAIL via NTL
THe problem with using ntl's SMTP servers is that you have to specify a valid ntl email address to send email, so you couldn't send 'from' your gmail account, only set it as a reply-to.

Re: Sending GMAIL via NTL
Hi.
Works fine for me with these settings:-
incoming: pop.gmail
outgoing: smtp.gmail
account name: whatever@gmail.com
password: gmail password
Then:-
Outgoing mail server,
My server requires authentication, checked.
Settings button.
Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
Or you could click the other radio button and put you gmail details in there.

I hadn't used my account in a while, but just tried it, and got an SSL error. Checked on the account setting, and it seemed that it was down to the server certificate. (This is with Eudora)
Maybe Outlook is being anal about the certificate too?

Sorry, but that's complete rubbish. The only requirement to use ntl's smtp servers is that you are connected the ntl network.

That's exactly what I thought and what's worked for me.
