Question more ie website viewing problems

for some unknown reason (at least to me!) i can no longer access several sites with ie6.

for example - i just get "web site found. waiting for reply" with google and yahoo, but can see the bbc site.
similarly I can see this site but not the forums!

it's not a connection problem as everything is normal using firefox.

i did do a windows update last night - and seem to remember 2 new critical updates being installed - not sure if this caused the problem?

all suggestions gratefully received.

cheers
Martin

ps using win98se

Re: more ie website viewing problems

Without being in any way expert, I would say Win98 is a very, very old operating system and it might just not like IE6 very much. But I'll leave the experts to advise you properly!

Re: more ie website viewing problems

i'd suggest installing another browser (e.g. opera, Firefox), because:

a) it's a quck way to see if its some ie settings causing a problem or a connection/'puter problem

b) both are better than ie (imho )

Re: more ie website viewing problems

I have one system that still uses win98se and has no problems at all running ie6. Maybe ie6 has a specific proxy enabled that is blocking access to some sites or if it hasn't then Firefox may have one specified that works better than leaving the NTL system to work automatically. My winXP systems are far better and more stable so I would suggest upgrading to XP if possible. I have some gear that won't run correctly on XP which is the only reason for keeping the win98se system.

Re: more ie website viewing problems

i've had ie6 since it came out and never had any problems until yesterday.

firefox is working fine - neither firefox nor ie6 are using a proxy.

Just a suggestion. Have you tried deleting your Temporary Files?
