Red face Brighton Proxy Server!

Last night experienced very slow browsing using cache2 on Brighton proxy servers. Using direct connection on Firefox alleviated problem, however normal proxy cache operation is faster when it works!
Has Brighton area changed over to new style proxy caches?
Is direct connection/detect proxy the same thing under Firefox?
System status has a permanent peformance issue with connection affecting Brighton area - could this be the problem?

Incidentally manually upgrading to the new speeds worked for me :750K->2Mb; worth a shot for those waiting!

Re: Brighton Proxy Server!

If you don't specify a proxy then all connections on port 80 (be it from Internet Explorer or Firefox or even telnet) are automatically routed through one of your local proxies, the specific proxy is dependant on the destination.

Would newer servers improve performance over the Inktomi's?
