Unhappy How do I move my website I have created to ntl homepage?

I have created a website using the application ewisoft. In a folder on my computer I now have a user folder, usertpl folder and the following HTML icons: default, index, p1, p5, p6, p7, p14, p15, p16, p17.

I have spoken to ntl and they have told me I can copy and paste these into ftp://username:password@upload.ntlworld.com. I have tried this and I get a box showing 'calculating the time to upload the files' but then it doesn't do anything.

Am I meant to copy the whole folder or just the contents? What am I doing wrong?

first of all get an ftp program like filezilla that will put your files on to your webspace.

remember to add your ntl username and password into filezilla, and then on the left hand side of the screen browse tyo your files, that you want onto the internet, and drag them to the right hand side, filezilla will do the rest.

Re: How do I move my website I have created to ntl homepage?

Thanks for that. I am still having trouble though.

The message log in Filezilla states that it is connected to upload.ntlworld.com but is unable to return a welcome message. I phoned ntl and all my details I have entered are correct, but they have said that there must be another problem, maybe with the software or server (not ntl's). I am really getting fed up now. There is nothing esle they can do to help me.

Any ideas?

Re: How do I move my website I have created to ntl homepage?

Do you have a firewall on your PC?
Try seeing if you can log in using the windows FTP program:
click "Start" then "Run" then enter "ftp upload.ntlworld.com" (without the inverted commas)
Enter you username and password when prompted.
If it connects, enter the command "ls" to list files (should be nothing there of course). If this works then it's not a problem with your machine or your connection, but possibly with the software you are using.

Sorry for the off-topic comment, but what XP theme is that you're using ikthius? I had something similar once, and lost it in a reinstall

Re: How do I move my website I have created to ntl homepage?

I found someone on these forums, had it, and I asked them, apparently it is royal blue, but you need to patch a file, which you can download.

bear in mnid, I had lots of problems with it that I uninstalled and had to restore to a couple of days previousto take away probs.

I will try to find it for you.

Re: How do I move my website I have created to ntl homepage?

i presume that you are trying to do this while connected via your NTL connection..? You can't connect to your NTL ftp space via any other internet connection.

i have always used smartFTP to upload to ftp sites...download that here

I did like smartFTP until it started to ask for money all the time, then would not connect.

I'm currently using FlashFXP for uploading files to my webspace, but like you originally tried... you should be able to connect no problems through My Computer (using that type of URL they gave you when you called NTL)

Hi

I think I do have a firewall running. Would that cause a problem?

let your firewall know the program that is getting into the net, so when it comes up with a warning for the program you use, let it through.
