BT Phone Fault

My Parents have a fault in which BT are refusing to send an engineer out because they claim they cannot find a fault.

When u try and ring in the phone will ring twice and suddenly theres a load of cracking on the line like static you would hear on the radio.

I thought that it may have been a fault with one of the phones so i asked them to take out the phones so nothing was plugged in and still the fault occurs. The line is fine when ringing out its just when someone attempts to ring in.

What is the next thing they could do now?

Re: BT Phone Fault

Take the two screwsoutthe master socket and plug the phone in a test socket, could be a faulty extension

Re: BT Phone Fault

My Daughter has had no broadband or phone for the last 6 or so weeks. She describes the same crackling when she attempts to make a voice call.

BT "support" say they can see no fault so have refused to investigate further.

Absolute disgusting service. Anyone thinking of going to BT for Infinity should take note.

Have you done what is suggested above and removed the faceplate from the master socket to test?

She tells me she has. She also tells me her next door neighbour is suffering the same issue and getting the same response from BT.

Some news.

After all this time and many complaints, completely unannounced an engineer turned up and fixed the landline. When asked about the broadband he mumbled something about the exchange (Wooley) being upgraded and services expected to resume on the 23rd October. Bovine excrement? Time will tell.

Meanwhile BT are still arguing about crediting her.

Re: BT Phone Fault

My Parents are still having the fault and its intermittant and BT are stating its at their end and something at the house even though it still happens when nothing at all is connected to the box.

Im very annoyed to be honest with you at BT as my dad is very ill and if hes taken ill to hospital although my mum has a mobile they will need the landline and if people cant get in touch or it decides to totally conk out they will be stuck.

Re: BT Phone Fault

Since BT aren't interested run the following test at your parent's place.
1) Unplug all phones from the master socket
2) Remove the faceplate, if you're on the master socket you should have a screw either side on the lower half of the faceplate, remove them then pull the faceplate forwards, there should be another socket inside. Try calling the line then, if it does the same then go to step 3, if not then it's internal extension wiring that's at fault.
3) Remove the other 2 screws and check that there is only 1 wire going to the A and 1 to the B terminals in the faceplate. If not then someone has wired the extensions incorrectly
4) If there is only 1 wire to A and 1 to B, Call BT, INSIST on an engineer visit, they'll tell you if they can't find a fault or if it's a fault with your internal extension wiring they'll charge you. Doesn't matter - you've eliminated the extension wiring with the above tests, from there on in it's ENTIRELY their responsibility, there's a fault you can repeatedly demonstrate so it's their problem.

Re: BT Phone Fault

Lord Nikon they told my parents to try step 2 and in my opinion they shouldnt have to do this kind of thing themselves.

They are both classed as disabled and have been with BT since the early 90s and have paid bills on time and line rental and they should get an engineer out to sort the problem.
