BT Basic for those on a low income.
Not sure if everyone knows about this, but if you have any of the following benefits:
Income Support
Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
Employment Support Allowance (Income related) or
Pensions Credit (Guaranteed Credit)
You can get a BT phone line for £4.60 a month, which includes £4.50 worth of calls.

Re: BT Basic for those on a low income.
It's been around for years in one form or another - used to be called the Light User Scheme. In the early days of dialled access to third party telecoms providers it was a useful way of minimizing your line rental charges (because anyone could get it back then - you didn't have to prove hardship). BT got wise eventually and barred the access numbers from the service.
