mobile phone contract cancellation.

Hi friends,
i had a 12 month contract phone with vodafone, the contract was due to end on 22/12/2010. I called the vodafone customer care service on 07/12/2010 and request to cancell my contract but they refused to cancel my contract and asked me to send a letter by post or email them through their web site.
So i sent an email to them through vodafone web site to cancell my contract, after one month I received another phone bill from vodafone, so I rang them again on 12/01/2011 to find out whether my contract is cancelled or not. But the contract was not cancelled and they said they don't have any record of cancellation request. After a long argument they agreed to accepet my cancellation request over phone.but they will only cancell my contract from 11/02/2011.
SO i have to pay nearly two months rent extra, and they do have record of my first phone call and the request for cancellation.
They refused to cancell my contract on the first call, but they managed to cancell my contract on my second call with out having to send a letter or email.
dear friends do you think that these phone companies are here to just squeeze money out from customers, no body is here to regulate them, all these companies have different regulations( their own!!!!) different rule, differnet cancellation policy etc etc.....
please do post your opinion here, please tell me whether i can do anything about this. thanks

Re: mobile phone contract cancellation.

Should have printed your email out showing the sent date etc and then posted it to them by recorded delivery stating you want them to honour the 30 day cancellation period from date of sending.
