Unhappy Beware of BT sales drones bearing gifts.

Just had a call from BT to tell me I now have free evening call as well as free weekend calls. As I probably only make a couple of calls each month I wasn't too interested. She then went on to say that I didn't need to do anything and it wouldn't cost any extra BUT.......I would have to agree to a rolling 12 month contract agreement.

What a damn nerve. After years and years of being a customer they can't resist trying to squeeze a few more pips out of me.

I told her if BT want alter my present contract in any way as regards to rolling contracts of any length over the present 1 month then they could automatically kiss my ass goodbye as it would be cheaper for me to just rely on my mobile.

Their choice.

They backed down but I can see this becoming a part of their TOS.

If you get one of these calls tell them exactly where to stick their rolling contracts.

BT are particularly aggressive over this. They have recently increased line rental by about £3 per month i.e. about 30%. You can get out of it by paying for a year in advance. Yeah right... I recently noticed that Be are offering a landline as well now, and the contract length is tied to your BB contract. Looking good at £13.50 including all geo-calls and 20 international destinations as well. As I'm out of contract for BB with Be I will be saying goodbye to BT over their ridiculous attempts at tying people into lengthy contracts. It's a bloody phoneline. They don't supply any equipment to the consumer. I see no reason why the minimum contract should be more than 3 months.

Thanks for reminding me of Be's landline. I must look into it as I'm all out to dump BT over this. A pity because I have enjoyed years and years of faultless service. But they are really starting to extract the you know what now. I guess it's all they can think of to reduce churn. I fancy it will have just the opposite effect.

You will still be using the same line so the service should be stable.

Re: Beware of BT sales drones bearing gifts.

The rolling 12 month contract upon any changes made to your current package has been an ongoing thing for a while now and many companies are doing it. I have even seen some trying to hide an 18 month contract period in the small print of "offers" sent out to customers.

If I'm not mistaken all BT BB contracts are 18 months now. I think it should me made illegal. Then again, there's probably nothing stopping them from giving a 'discount' to customers paying 18 months contract in advance

If you only take broadband from BT it is a 12 month contract. I think once you add calling plans its increased to 18 months

Aah. Fair enough. But presumably, that's just for people that already have a BT phone line then?
