Vodafone to Orange Questions

I am currently on Vodafone UK and would like to change to Orange UK. My handset is unlocked.

I have ordered my free Orange SIM card online.

When the SIM card arrvies, I will call Vodafone to get my PAC code.

How do Vodafone give you your PAC code? Is it via a text?

When I have received the PAC code all I have to do is call Orange and they will transfer my exisiting Vodafone number to their network? How long does it normally take?

Is this correct?

Do Orange give you free credit for switching?

When I receive the Orange SIM card do I put it into the phone straightaway and accept the settings? Or do I call Orange from another phone with my PAC code and they will tell me when to insert my new Orange SIM card?

Thanks

Re: Vodafone to Orange Questions

you can use the new orange sim straight away (with a new number) ... call vodafone, get the pac code ... pass the pac code onto orange along with the sim card number (not your orange mobile number) orange will send you some texts once the transfer is complete, your orange number will no longer work, you will now have your old vodafone number on your new orange sim .... proccess takes about 5-7 days from when orange get the pac code

Ring Vodafone on this freephone number 08080-945-945 it deals with number porting and nothing else. It will give you a PAC code, then ring Orange on 0800-079-0006 and the automated service will ask you if you would like a new Orange number or if you would like to activate an Orange sim card and keep the number you already have, they will then transfer you to human being most likely in india who will take the PAC Code and your personal details and activate your sim. Upon activation and registration, you will recieve £1 free credit from Orange.

If you are moving to an Orange contract or Pay Monthly Service plan of any kind then your sim pack will have an activation website link or a telephone numbers in your Sim pack.

Re: Vodafone to Orange Questions

My advice, don't do it. I know a few people who are with Orange and their customer service and coverage are utter pants.
O2, who am with, are ok. But Voda have better CS and coverage. Occasionally you might have the bad service but they are way better than Orange.

Re: Vodafone to Orange Questions

Best coverage:

2G: O2 and Vodafone
3G: 3 and T-Mobile

Worst coverage:

T-Mobile is the worst out of all 4 2G networks and is known to be bad in basement flats, nightclubs, supermarkets and houses with really thick walls. Its also bad in rural areas.

Orange seems patchy too especially in city centres for some reason.

3 uses Orange for 2G coverage which will be phased out soon since its 3G coverage is nearly complete.

Do not use Orange 3G in North London, it is utter crap, slow speeds and dropped calls even with full bars.

For best 3G results, 3 and T-Mobile are the ones to use.

Hutchison 3G and T-Mobile recently merged there infrastructures creating MBNL. 3's network coverage covers currently 93% of 3G coverage, T-Mobile covers nearly that, the merge is almost complete. The speed of the internet on 3 is slightly faster than T-Mobile's even at peak times.

Soon Orange,T-Mobile and 3 will be combining each others networks following the merger of Orange and T-Mobile.

But my personal opinion of Orange and T-Mobile, stay away! Especially Orange home broadband and phone, the service is horrific.

Re: Vodafone to Orange Questions

If your phone is unlocked just use the Orange Sim for Orange Wednesdays.

Re: Vodafone to Orange Questions

You need to spend or top up with at least £5 per week in order to get Orange Wednesdays.

Not so! Between 2 Orange PAYG we spend around £60 a YEAR and get Orange Wednesdays no problem.
