Unlocking Iphones

How easy is it and is it possible to unlock a Iphone thats locked to UK orange,O2,Tesco or Vodafone and use it on the 3 network???

It seems it will be a short while before it becomes available on 3 unfortunetly. I wouldn't mind but for 3G services, Apple should have chosen 3 in the first place, what the hell were they thinking making it exclusive to O2 when there 3G coverage only covers around just under 60% of the UK population, that means in most cases, all 3G dependent features of the phone won't work outside the O2 3G coverage area, so in other words only basic Voice call,Texts,Pictures and GPRS access is available meaning that it is no more useful than a Nokia 2760 or a Sony Ericsson W200i LOL.

Iphone in Hong Kong is exclusive to 3 and in Germany it was T-Mobile.

I think all this locking phones and exclusive rights blah blah blah blah is just causing bad competition and too many restrictions offering people limited choice, Ofcom and sites such as moneysavingexpert.com,Uswitch,confused.com and many more encourage us to switch providers but its made complicated because of all this locking and blocking.

Indeed - also (for others maybe) if you have a pay as you go iPhone on o2 you no longer need to wait 12months before they will unlock it

edit - and it was easy, I made sure teh £15 was on my o2 iphone and filled out the unlocking page. Took about 3 days. I got a text saying it was done, put my virgin sim in and then plugged it into iTunes which told me that it was succesfully unlocked.
