2nd hand iphone advice

Heres one thats bugging me now.

Quick story, bought a second hand iPhone 3G off eBay for my lass. Put in her 02 sim and says "No sim found"

Next step, restored the iPhone put the sim in "no sim found"

Next step, rang 02 to check if the IMEI has been blocked 02 customer services said "No information on that unit"

Now, I've jailbroke it, using BlackRa1n but with no connectivity I can't "Unlock" it for any sim.

Is there a next step? I've spoken to the Ebay chap and he assures me it was working when it left. Of course, finding that hard to believe at this moment.

Re: 2nd hand iphone advice

I take it the sim you have tried is working in another phone? If it isn't working then it isn't working. Contact the seller again. Also what proof can the seller give that this was working up till it was sent?

Yup. Sim works fine in her Samsung and my 3GS. I've spoken to him a few times and it's the same process. It works. Problem, is shes got all excited etc, so I don't wanna disappoint her.

Re: 2nd hand iphone advice

Ask for proof of it working before sale, if he can't prove it then you have 2 options:
Open a dispute on ebay as it's not working
Take it to an unlocker to see if they can figure out why it's not working.
Have you got a link to the ebay listing?

Actually forget an unlocker, take it to an apple store, when they say it's faulty then you don't have to argue with the seller any more (especially if you can ask the apple tech to put it in writing).

Thanks. Sorted it! Rang 02 Pay Monthly and the IMEI had been blocked. Turned out, it was a contract phone with the bill not paid.

Re: 2nd hand iphone advice

Will they unblock it if the bill is unpaid? I would pass O2 the details of the seller, it's up to them to chase him for payment and I'm sure they would happily accept the details of who sold it to you.

Re: 2nd hand iphone advice

You should report the seller on Ebay before they con somebody else with dodgy gear

Re: 2nd hand iphone advice

So if the IEMI was blocked - can they tell you date it was blocked? Then he's a liar to say it worked before it was sold.
