Evesdrop warning!
Now I know several people who have taken up services with TalkTalk,Orange and Sky and also pay them for line rental, when this happens, they literally take over the line and settings features are set by them ect....
Now on a few occasions, when i've called the people I know, halfway throughout the conversation, i've heard faint voices on the same line, ghosts of another conversation, in other words another phone call placed on another line.
Even worse, on two occasions, the person I know on TalkTalk, after they hung up, I heard a big clicking noise and suddenly there was two conversations going and it was crystal clear, and the second occasion, it happened the same way, but the voices sounded like someone had forgotten to put the phone down, it was just a normal conversation in the background.
Anyone else experience this or some sort of similar issue?
If you ask me, this is a serious case of privacy invasion!

A friend of mine thinks theres something similar like this with his Virgin line, its only at night after around 7pm if u ring him its like talking into a tunnel and one are either side and then when one persons hangs up u can hear what sounds like very faint voices.

Trust me - if the Security Services are 'listening', you will have no echo/clicks/background noise; your line will be crystal clear.
All the stuff you are discussing is from the analogue era, not the digital age.

Things can malfunction. You can also, if your pair isn't twisted too well, receive radio on your phone line under certain circumstances

Used to get that quite often, though the fact that I had a 400W transmitter in the house that probably wasn't a suprise..
Other voices on the line is purely crosstalk it sometimes happens and as already stated although the exchanges are digital these days the line to your house isn't
As for clicks that could be anything like the equipment at the exchange doing a reset due to some fault, a taxi radio close by giving RFI or an engineer at the box testing lines..
If though you're still in doubt then there is the tried and trusted method

Re: Evesdrop warning!
But its TalkTalk what do you expect anyway, they told me today that when they use the phone the internet stops working which is weird.

Re: Evesdrop warning!
Yep normally a broken filter or lack of one on an extension which is in use. Often happens even when it's clearly explained in the installation instructions.

Re: Evesdrop warning!
The clicking noise could be you're overhearing a dolphin conversation.

Re: Evesdrop warning!
Dab using digital can NOT resolve itself on analogue telephone lines, only an analogue signal (especially AM due to it's power fluctuations on modulation) can do this
