Force GSM Mode "Three"

I have a Nokia N85, and im my house i have decent reception on three, but there are a few places like my kitchen where it struggles to get 3G reception, i've tested it on GSM Mode 2G backup and the reception in the kitchen has atleast 1-2 bars, so i have forced it to use GSM Mode. Will three block my SIM card or phone for doing this? Would they be able to find out. It has orig nokia firmware on the phone.

No, a lot of people do this as it falls back to O2 or Orange. You should also see a significant increase in battery life.

I did this with my N85 on Orange, to be honest the phone is very poor, I've gone back to my Nokia 6500 slide. Battery life was shocking plus I had many problems with the phone, now its fixed I have it as a spare.

Its the other way around for me, the 6500 Slide was extreemly poor for me, especially the reception on it. I did have a few issues with N85 on earlier software but with the latest v30 firmware the phone is great, one of the fastest Nokia phones i've used.

Re: Force GSM Mode "Three"

About a year ago I had a Nokia 6500 slide phone on Orange, the phone was rubbish! It kept freezing all the time.

And as for Orange 3G I had to keep switching back and forward to 2G because it was useless! No Orange 3G coverage in and around my property in Central London!

As you will know most 3 phones have no blocked the access to switching to 2G/GSM mode manually, it can only be done automatically when 3G fails on most phones.

Re: Force GSM Mode "Three"

There is a known firmware fault with the 6500 slide, I got mine sorted for free at the local Nokia repair shop.
