Changing from Virgin PAYG - ASDA Mobile any good?
Hi guys. Don't normally shop at ASDA but popped in there the other day and picked up a leaflet on their mobile phone service. which seems very cheap (8ppm call/4p texts to any network) and simple to follow.
Myself, the wife and kids are all on Virgin mobile PAYG (Original tariff) but having been pretty peeved by Virgin's various price increases, we're reviewing what to do. We have VM TV, fixed phone and broadband and had thought this might offer some concessions on our mobile service but we don't want to go over to contracts so that seems a non starter.
Does anyone have any experience of the ASDA mobile service and whether or not it offers everything (or indeed more/less than) the VM PAYG service? I believe it's linked to Vodafone and I know the coverage is good so there are no worries on that score.
Cheers!

Simple choice is:
Asda uses the Vodafone network - Virgin use the T-Mobile network
If it's any easyier, O2 off 4 free sims, with unlimited and free calls, for 02 - 02, when you top £15.00 a month. Or if you just put £10 a month, you get unlimited text messages, 02 - 02. I've got one, and easily send 4k texts from 02 - 02 a month.

Thanks for that. The 02 deal might suit if we made more calls but I doubt we spend as much as £15 a month on PAYG. Of course that may well change when Junior #1 finds a girfriend...

Re: Changing from Virgin PAYG - ASDA Mobile any good?
well only dad can pay £15 and the rest pay £10 (or even not top up for a couple of months) and then if you require to chat to dad u send the free O2 to O2 text or miscall to dad and he'll call u!!!
Well thats how we've been doing it!!!!!!
The £15 that you pay remains as normal credit and if u top up every month the amount increases !!!
I know a friend who has over £80 cos they use the method I mentioned above !!!

I have used Virgin but as they use T-Mobile network and I found the coverage was poor and expensive, I now us Asda mobile coverage excelent as it uses the Vodaphone network and calls are less just 8p
per min and texts are 4p, so Asda wins on all scores for me.

Tesco also have a light user tariff comparable to ASDA if you spend less than £10 a month http://www.tesco.com/mobilenetwork/p...o.aspx?page=84

From personal experience you can swop "may well change" to "will definitely change" when junior#1 finds a girlfriend.
Free calls with O2 will suddenly be very attractive.

That is all fine, but for light users (I only use my mobile once or twice a week) it is expensive. I only want voice or SMS, and wouldn't dream of buying a phone that's locked to a network. Shop around and you can find a decent basic phone for less than £50. And all those Bundles!. Talk about trying to get you to buy what you don't need. When I add up what I actually use none of these offers ends up cheaper. In fact I could save myself 2/3 of my current costs by moving to Tesco Mobile Lite, which I will be doing as soon as my credit runs out.
