You will not need to leave it off for hours. I changed from USB to ethernet and only powered off the modem for a couple of minutes. When I powered it back up it connected fine via the ethernet.

Call TS again, it sounds like they need to change it. If they still say leave it off for hours, jsut tell them you have and still doesn't work.
