Sky TV Link Problem - Help

Hi,
I am having a problem with my TV Link that was fitted by sky in the year 2000.

However, yestarday I connected it back up, pretty sure it is on the same video as it was tuned in to, with scart to TV, though different TV.

The problem is, it is not letting me turn it on, off or change channels etc..., but I do get a picture.

I have tried moving the TV Link around but it does not help.

The red light is on the TV Link.

It worked this morning, when I turned it on and changed channels, but then I tried a few hours later to change the channel and it didn't work.

The SKY TV Link wire comes direct from the back of the SKY Box into the TV Link

I have put new batteries in the remote and the red light comes on when I press any button.

Has the TV Link broken ?

Regards,
Garry

Have you connected the TV link to the correct RF-Out on the back of your box, one of them is powered for the TV-Link and one isnt.

Re: Sky TV Link Problem - Help

This is the TV link that conects onto the coaxial cable plugged into the RF2 socket on the back of the Sky box?

If so, and joking apart, if you've moved it and it only works during certain times of the day, move the "eye" around a little.

I had a similar problem and it was caused by storong sunlight falling onto the "eye" at a certain time of the day. This caused the link not to see the signal properly.

Re: Sky TV Link Problem - Help

Hi,
Thank you for your replies

It is plugged into the RF-Out 2 and as far as I know the power is turned on in the Sky Menu System as the Red Light comes on the TV Link.

I don't think it is the sun as I have moved the eye around and pulled the curtains.

One thing I have noticed is, when it stops working, I have to turn it off from the box downstairs, but a few hours later, I can turn it on using the TV Link, but it stops working after a minute or two.

I have seen a place that does TV Links for £3.99 just need to make sure it will work with my Sky remote, so I may get one of them.

Regards,
Garry

Re: Sky TV Link Problem - Help

As long as the sky-remote works with the box your using, and the eye is compatible with the box, it should be fine. The only issue is if there is something wrong inside the box, where it splits off the IR signals.

If so, you may find a new box for not-a-lot on good ol' ebay, if it is that important.

Re: Sky TV Link Problem - Help

It's one of 3 things-

Faulty connections (make sure none of the copper braiding is touching the stinger core)

Faulty cableing (My cable went dodgy on me & had to be replaced)

Faulty output 2 Power supply to the eye (9volt)
