Re: 9 volt batteries and sky TV

You can unplug your sky box from the phoneline after 12months anyway. If you do this before the 12months is up and they check your line and find no box on more than a few occasions they are likely to charge you for the box at the unsubsidesed rate.

None of my sky boxes have ever had a problem not being plugged into the phone line.....

So I'm not too sure why you'd want to do it? Just because it tells you it's not plugged into a phone line when you turn it on? Just to get '4 free movies?'

Re: 9 volt batteries and sky TV

Thanks dilligaf1701
May I ask this..
Can a sky box be plugged into a broadband VOIP line, e.g a SIP adapter? Would that fullfil the requirements of Sky? I'm thinking that way, I could have the sky package, NTL BB and not have a 'traditional' phone line from Big Ted?

I have no idea about doing it that way - sorry. I'm sure someone much clever than me will be along shortly tho

AFAIK it doesn't work, because a VOIP line can't carry a modem signal, which is what the Sky Box is trying to send.

Why do you want to do this mate - incidentally it probably wont work, Modems use X.31 whilst Voip Is a codec which unless specifically written probably wont carry your X.31 traffic.

I havent ever had it plugged in and never have i been bothered by Sky.

I want to, because I can.
I can confirm that I can't dial up over VOIP.
I think I best get back to lurkers corner, I've had my fun for today!

Didn't I just say that ... except without the jargon?

Yeah, but Jargon just makes it look soo much more professional, even if the mods dont - somebodys gotta keep the standards up around here.
