TV5 subtitles on Sky+

I watch TV5 (channel 799) on Sky+ , switching french subtitles on and off using the "help" button. This has worked fine for some time but all I get during the last 7/10 days is a "subtitles unavailable" message on TV5. I have no problem with BBC or ITV subtitles (english). As suggested by Sky I've used the services button to switch subtitles on universally and to do a planner rebuild, but no joy. Does anybody know if the problem actually lies with the subtitles functionality of TV5 broadcasts at the present time? Thank you for any ideas

Re: TV5 subtitles on Sky+

I'd be surprised if they have ceased deliberately. Can I suggest you contact TV5 and ask if they know of a fault or have made any changes to the way they broadcast subtitles? Please post back if you find anything out.

Re: TV5 subtitles on Sky+

As spiderplant has said it will be worth contacting the channel , it may also be worth asking the question on the Sky Help Forum listed below
http://helpforum.sky.com/?device-view=desktop

Update It also says subtitles unavailable on my Sky+HD box.

Re: TV5 subtitles on Sky+

Thanks both,
My initial thoughts were that this was related to the progressive switch-off of analogue TV. Sky are not aware of any changes at TV5 and suggest I "call the technical support line for further assistance, as there are numerous process that can be attempted for this type of issue."
I'll post if I make any progress

Re: TV5 subtitles on Sky+

Update after talking to Sky Technical assistance. Follow following procedure to identify if subtitles actually broadcast:-
  • Sky+ button,
  • Services button,
  • Options menu,
  • Sky+ setup,
  • Right arrow to "subtitles",
  • Down arrow to "Highlighted programmes",
  • Arrow to "subtitles",
  • Green button to save this setting.

TV Guide button, all program mes with subtitles broadcast (ie BBC) will be highlighted with blue text & WHITE background, Scroll to 799 (TV5). No subtitle being broadcast (BLUE background, white text)

Re: TV5 subtitles on Sky+

Good news Update.
The subtitles re-appeared at about 01.00 on thurs 15/12/20011 just as mysteriously as they disappeared about three weeks ago. Nothing to do with the various leads or settings I tried. Pity I'd already spent about 100 dollars subscribing to Yabla.com (Excellent short French videos with Fr/Eng Subtitles but their site is really ropey) ,Thanks for all your efforts to help.

Re: TV5 subtitles on Sky+

TV5 have sent me the contact details for their representative in Britain. Anybody wanting them can PM me. I'll write to see if the mysterious disappearance of subtitles can be clarified. Also for fairness I must say that Yabla video retrieval speeds are now quite acceptable.
