What is this mysterious cable?

Hi there - this might be a daft question however would anyone be able to tell me if this is the type of cable that would go to a satellite dish?

I have no idea if you get different connections for different types of box etc - all my virgin boxes do not have this type of connection.

The mysterious cable has been sticking out my wall since we moved into the house five years ago. If I remember correctly when we had Virgin installed they had to install it from scratch. The cable is where the previous owners kept a television.

I have tried to find where the cable goes by going into the loft however I have not been able to find out.

My next door neighbor has a satellite dish on the front of their house and the only thing I can think of is that the cable goes there. If that is the case would it be a simple case of buying a freesat box and hooking it up?

Re: What is this mysterious cable?

It looks like cable connection as it's white, sat cables are usually black or brown. The silver bit on the end is an inline connector used join another length of cable to extend it, this just unscrews though they can be quite tight.

It probably isn't connected any more as you had a complete install, and I'm pretty sure it won't be connected to your neighbours dish.

Re: What is this mysterious cable?

Have you asked your neighbour if he had an arrangement with the previous occupier to share his dish.Probably the easiest and cheapest way to confirm.

Though I wouldn't want to rely on the goodwill of a neighbour to provide the signal for my freesat box, things happen, and they could just decide to cut the cable, or ask you to contribute to cost of repairs to the dish if a fault develops.

Does it run along or near a BT telephone line? Or do you see a junction socket called CATV/GPO
